Infinite's POV:

After tormenting lost and weak civilians, I walked back from city, my thoughts were interrupted by quiet sobbing in the distance. I stopped walking and decided to inspect where the sobs came from, could be a free kill for all I know.

What I came cross heavily shocked me, I had to hide behind a tree so he would not see me. What is that wolf doing here?

Gadget's POV:

I don't know what came over me, but I just broke down. I guess holding up these emotions for too long got to me in the end. I had learned to supress my emotions during the war, only showing sympathy for survivors and lost civilians, but it seems it was all too much on me.

I heard a twig snap but ignored it, if death were to come here then they may do so. How can I live on knowing everything I knew was gone? The Resistance is gone. My family and friends are dead. I have no one but myself to talk to, and even that doesn't help my cause.

Taking off my clouded glasses, I rubbed my bloodshot eyes and sighed deeply. I carried no weapons, just a belt with an attachable jug that is filled with water to keep me hydrated.

I can't bring myself to hunt animals, so that method of collecting food is out the window. There is no more food in the city, just rotten corpses and I am NOT committing cannibalism.

"Pull yourself together, Gadget" I scowled myself and stood up, wiping the rest of my tears. "I'm not dying today." I growled to myself.

"Food. That's what I need." I reminded myself and started to search again. "I wish I remembered what forest foods were edible..." I huffed and looked around.

Some of the leaves and mushrooms that grew around here looked edible, but I didn't want to risk food poisoning or certain death.

A flicker of fur caught my eye as I walked, but when I turned around to see what it was it disappeared. I huffed and looked around the area, there was a small strand of black fur stuck in a tree, I sniffed it and growled. "Infinite..." I became more alert and conscious of my surroundings after seeing his fur close to my cave.

Infinite's POV:

I decided to watch over the wolf, he was very interesting to me. Sitting on a high branch out of sight of the wolf, I followed his journey. I will take matters into my own hands eventually but I like to play with my prey before pouncing and delivering the final blow.

He shows weakness so openly.

I wonder if a little visit will break him more.

Gadget's POV:

"AHH!" I yelled at the creature that suddenly appeared in front of me.

It was a rabbit.

"Oh...ha...ha" I panted and laughed. "It's just a rabbit.." I regained my breath and calmed my heart. The rabbit looked at me before hopping off into the bushes again.

Dammit, now I'm being scared of every little thing.

I continued on my trek, approaching the city. "Hopefully I find some form of nutrient, even if I have to loot bodies.." I sighed.

The city looked horrible, a city I once loved. When I got into the ruins there seemed to be more and more bodies laying around every day, which unsettled me. I started to loot bodies for any food, it was sickening but had to be done if I want to survive. I found one food bar but that's all from a total of ten bodies.

Eventually, I had to take a break to throw up in the bushes, the rotting stench of the bodies were just horrible. As I finished throwing up nothing but my own stomach acid as I haven't ate anything in days, I decided to return back to my cave to slowly pick off bits of the nutrient block, making sure to preserve as much of it as possible.

Returning to my cave, there was a very unwelcome visitor inside.

"Infinite!" I yelled angrily. "Get out!" I commanded harshly, I have no time for him and my stomach hurts so I can't fight, nevermind the cast on my hand.

He looked at me with that metal mask of his, "No, I don't think I will" he stood up and approached me, making me back away. "You see, you are in no way fit to fight, so this cave is mine unless you submit to me" he chuckled darkly.

"Submit? Fat chance!" I scoffed and crossed my arms. "Fine! You can have the stupid cave" I walked away from the jackal with a low growl, I can't believe I had to give it up, there was no way I was going to submit to him!

This just makes my situation a lot more worse, I might just have to camp out in the forest, away from the cave. I don't know what Infinite is planning, but it doesn't sound good.

There was a small clearing in the forest, I gathered some sticks and started to make a small fire to warm myself up. I sat down on the ground and curled up to myself, I checked my communicator but nothing but static filled the device and my ear, I turned it off and sighed, "Well, that's useless..."

"Might as well sleep, hopefully I wake up in the morning..." I huffed softly and took off my glasses. I closed my eyes and fell into a dreamless slumber.

Infinite's POV:

That wolf barely put up a fight, surprising. Something must be bothering him, and I can use that to my advantage.

The cave was comfortable enough, nice steal from him. It was also deep so I can hide in the darkest parts of the cave. Maybe I can use my ruby tomorrow, killing is fun but mental torture is exhilarating for me.

Just like Sonic, that wolf won't be mentally strong any longer. I will break that barrier.

No matter what.
