Chapter Twelve: Reunited

POV: Gadget

What do they want with me?

"I will not disclose any personal information." I huffed and folded my arms.

"Well, can you answer this" Tails sighed. "Why were you hanging out with Infinite? And explain your claim mark" he demanded softly.

Fuck.

I growled at them, "My claim mark is personal business." I retorted sharply. "Is it wrong for me to hang out with Infinite?" I snapped.

"I think you're missing the point" Sonic sighed. "Infinite is a cold blooded killer who shows no remorse, why were you so special to him that he spares you?"

"I know him like no other mobian does" I refused to look at them. "That's all I'm saying." I stood up.

"Well, it's a start" Tails sighed heavily and went to his computer. As Tails typed stuff on his computer my wandering was strick and contained to just the room I was in currently. I got bored and just decided to pace around the room.

An alarm blaring through the base interrupted my pacing, I glanced up at the red flashing lights and grinned.

He's here!

"Proximity alert!" Tails stated over the noise of the alarm and panicked. Sonic nodded and glanced around, he stayed at the door.

The computer screen on the wall displayed the whole base and an approaching red dot coming from the door Sonic was standing at. The dot was closing in on the room before it stopped.

And all was silent.

*BANG*

The doors flew open, Sonic was thrown to the other side of the room and as the dust cleared, Infinite entered the room. His fists were clenched as he looked around before laying his eye on me.

"Infinite!" I grinned and ran to him. He embraced me in a small hug before walking up to Sonic and Tails.

POV: Infinite

Finally, he's mine again...

Now to deal with the pests.

"How dare you kidnap Gadget" I snarled and grabbed the yellow fox by the neck.

"Hey! Don't hurt him!" Sonic growled and tried to spin dash me, only for me to dodge and he hit his friend instead.

"AHH!" The fox screamed from pain as Sonic drove into him. From hearing the scream, Sonic immediately uncurled and gasped, "Tails!!" he looked at his friend.

The fox suffered no more than a few light scratches over his chest and the odd deep cut but that was it. I could tell the fox was traumatized, he was crying on Sonic's shoulder and trembling from the blow.

Good. That's what I want to see.

I took this distraction as my advantage and spawned a small dagger, I grabbed Sonic by his neck since I was behind him and drove the blade into his back.

"Take my property again and you will die, I will make sure of it..." I whispered into his ear then ripped the blade out of his body and growled. "That is your warning. Do not dare to defy me again." I walked away, disintegrating the blade and taking Gadget with me out of the base.

The walk back was silent, not that I minded, I liked the silence. I could see Gadget lost in thought, his soft facial expressions told it all.

I have him back...

I must ask him about what they wanted.

"Gadget?" I glanced at him as we walked.

"Yes?" He responded gently, his voice was soft.

"What did they want with you?" I asked and stopped walking, he stopped too when he seen me halt.

"Well, they inspected me first...they seen the claim mark, the scar on my side, they asked me questions about why I was hanging out with you" He explained and glanced at the grassy floor. "I kept personal business out of the question, including us" he twiddled his thumbs.

I hummed in soft thought.

So they were interrogating him, at least I can trust him to keep our personal business personal.

"Very well, at least you kept personal business to yourself" I replied and looked at him.

He nodded softly and glanced at me, "Infinite?" he asked as I started to walk again.

"Hmm?" I replied as he caught up with me.

"Are...are you happy to see me?" He asked which felt like a stab to my cold-blooded heart. I stopped walking again to look at him, "Gadget, of course" I took off my mask and held it in my arm. "I wouldn't have come all this way if I wasn't happy to see you" I admitted.

That made him smile.

My chaos, poor wolf...

He doesn't know how precious he is to me.

Maybe I could show him in some way...

"C'mon, let's go home" I put my mask back on for the ease of not carrying it and brushed my hand against his as we walked back.

I could see his tan muzzle darkening as his fingers intertwined with mine.

This is perfect...

It only took us an extra 20 minutes to get back to the cave, I knew I needed to improve in the barrier because somehow that yellow fox was able to bypass it without detection.

But that wasn't my main concern at the moment.

Gadget walked inside the cave and sat down, sighing contently as he was able to relax.

I sat down close to him and took off my mask, I could see from the corner of my eye that Gadget was dozing off. I let him because it was a rough day for both of us since we were both drugged and he was kidnapped.

I can't let him get kidnapped again.

Resting with him, I thought of ways to keep that pesky fox out of my territory for good. I know he's good at technology and he's definitely a scientist of some sort so I have to outsmart him in some way.

I felt something on my shoulder and glanced at Gadget, it was him who was resting against me. I couldn't help but smile at the sight of the sleepy wolf on my shoulder.

I decided to turn and wrap my strong arms around him, pulling him to me and letting him sleep in my embrace.

Currently, it's the least I can do to make him feel loved.

Soon enough, I fell asleep too. The cave was filled with nothing but light snores and the colours of dusk as it left the sky.
