*BANG*

"GADGET!!"

"Z...zero..."

~

"Gadget!!" I yelled in shock and sat up swiftly. I panted heavily and pools of sweat dripped down my back. My heart pounded out if my chest, like it would explode any second.

Nightmares...

I rubbed my forehead, my head ached from the past few days of planning and grieving.

The sun was rising over the dim horizon, pink clouds formed in the sky and presented a wonderful view of a sunrise. The fire in the cave had long died out and was replaced with the warmth of the sun.

I glanced at the view and sighed. "If only you could see this, Gadget..."

Standing up, I stretched and took a brief walk to the stream to cool off and wash. The crisp water was soothing against my fur and helped in waking me up. Before long, I was washed and fully awake for the day, my fur was soaked to the brim and so was my lengthy hair. I sat down beside the stream and let the warmth of the sun dry me off, it allowed me time to contemplate and gather ideas for my plan.

Picking them off one by one is sounding more of a plan than before.

However, without the ruby I would need to be more stealthy.

How would I get in without being detected?

And who would I target first?...

Those were questions I needed to answer myself, but I knew for a really good plan to form it would take days if not weeks and by time I manage to complete the plan I could be ratted out and killed already.

Because I know Shadow would love that.

Heck, he might even be the one to finish me off.

I scowled to myself as I thought, my wet tail draped to my side. I needed to find somewhere closer to the heat if I want to escape the flu.

Sighing, I stood up and walked around the forest to find an open spot where the heat was stronger than by the stream.

The flu is the last thing I need...

I rolled my eyes at my inner thought and found an exposed spot where I could look over the city at a ledge on a hill. It was perfect.

I sat down as the sun shone directly at me, this would enable my fur to dry quicker so I wouldn't get sick and I could focus.

My ears flickered softly in the gentle wind as I observed the city. It was tranquil here, no fighting, no pain, as if the war never happened.

Apart from the city in ruins.

From the peaceful setting, I picked up the scent of a mobian close by. My body tensed up in alert and my eyes darted around to try and locate the mobian. I slowly stood up and cautiously looked around, the scent was familiar yet very faint.

I glanced up at the trees and long behold I found the source.

Shadow was sitting on a tree branch watching me, for what reason I don't know but I don't like that he was watching me.

His blood red eyes locked onto mine for a second before he jumped down and crossed his arms.

"You're up early, I would've thought you'd still be grieving" Shadow huffed.

"That is none of your business" I spat in return. "What are you doing here? Stalking me? Trying to get more information?" I scoffed and rolled my eyes. "There is nothing here for you."

Shadow eyed my chest where my bandages were, I assume looking for the ruby.

"Where is the ruby?" He asked.

"Gone." I narrowed my eyes.

"Gone? Wow, what made you do that?" He pursued.

"I don't feel inclined to give that information to you" I crossed my arms and huffed.

"Well, if you won't tell me then I'll find out by myself." Shadow growled before disappearing in a bright flash of light.

Chaos, he is so persistent.

I hate it.

I sighed and turned around, continuing to dry off my fur until it was good enough to not get me sick.

If he disturbs those graves I swear all hell will break loose on him and the Resistance.

Once my fur was dry enough, I made my way back to the cave to eat and continue with the plan. The cave was warm enough so I held back on making a fire.

"A slit to their throats should be enough, it's quick and simple, and means I can quickly rush through the group" I mumbled to myself. "Leaving Shadow, Sonic and Silver" I hummed.

"Well, Sonic is easy to take care of so he's out of the question" I commented on my own ideas.

That leaves the two harder ones, Silver is quite good at fighting, and being alongside Shadow that leaves me outnumbered and at a disadvantage.

If only I could distract one of them for a few seconds...maybe I could get a swift attack in...

But then Shadow is faster than me, not to mention his chaos powers.

I sensed a mobian close by but didn't pay attention to it, however as it drew closer to the cave I became weary and glanced at the figure.

"Zero?..." A timid voice broke the silence.
