                    Like A Family

(Age 19-20)

Y/N was in the kitchen making Dinner for her and her long term boyfriend Naruto. He was out training late with Kakashi- sensei, he has been training more and more these last few days as more top rank missions pile in on the Hokage's desk.

She hasn't sent Naruto or you for that matter out on missions for quite some time, she says that you and Naruto need some time together and love can easily be taken away. It was a deep and long conversation in the Hokage's office that day, the fresh tears and wounds from the news of Master Jiraiya's death still rained heavily on  Lady Tsunade and Naruto himself.

Y/N had just set the table when she heard the familiar sound of their front door opening and then closing softly. She heard some shuffling and and yawn coming down the hallway to the kitchen where she stood, awaiting her lover. Naruto came into view and a smile grew wide on his face, Y/N's face mirrored his smile.

"Hey babe, I'm home. I brought Kakashi- sensei along for dinner. I hope that okay?"

Naruto stood in the door way running a hand down the back of his neck sheepishly as their teacher came into view, a closed eye smile and a wave.

"Good evening Y/N, I hope I'm not intruding?" Kakashi asks.

Y/N just smiled and chuckles, "No not at all Sensei. You two have a seat."

Y/N pulls another plate, and cup down from the cupboard and placed it on the table in front of Kakashi,

"Hope you like aged beef and steamed vegetables!" Y/N asked as she set the last of the vegetables on the table.

"This looks amazing Y/N!" Naruto exclaimed as he piled some aged beef onto his plate.

"You say that about everything I cook Naruto."

"Well all your cooking is good!"

"Thank you Y/N!" Kakashi exclaimed as he bowed his head at you and tucked into his plate.

"You're welcome!"

The three sat in comfortable silence as they ate, the sounds of chopsticks hitting a plate here and there and the sounds of gulping of ones tea. Its moments like these that remind Y/N that happiness and family aren't just a fairytale as she onced believed.

"Penny for your thoughts babe?" Naruto asked, a mouth full of steamed carrots.

"Huh?" Y/N questioned, blinking a few times at Naruto. She then blushed as she realized she was staring hard at him.

"I was just thinking about how great it is that we can all eat like this. Kinda like- well like a family." Y/N smiled brightly causing Naruto and smile back and look at Kakashi.

"Well why don't we make this a normal thing? Us all having dinner together some nights?" Kakashi asked with a other closed eye smile.

"Yeah that'll be great sensei!" Naruto exclaimed at the older man.

"Then it's settled." Sensei clapped his hands once and held his arms out. "Every Friday night is our dinner night. If Y/N is okay with it that is."

"Yeah I'd liked that a lot." In truth she really did. Growing up without any parents like Naruto she never really knew what a family was, being assigned to Kakashi as her Sensei after Sasuke left the Hidden Leaf Village, she started to feel like being on his team with Naruto, Sakura, and Sai made her feel close to them, like how a family is supposed to be. She would learn medical ninjutsu from Sakura, try to teach Sai about human emotions and how to talk to girls, Kakashi being a father figure who looked after them all, and then Naruto.

Naruto showed her what love really is. Having someone by your side at all times, looking after you when your sick, or sad. Someone to run to when things started to fall apart. Arms to wrap up in at night when it's cold at night. A heart that melted into hers and became one.

After Kakashi had left bidding them both Y/N and Naruto a good night, Y/N and Naruto were cleaning up the kitchen.

Y/N was absentmindedly washing a plate when two strong arms wrapped around her waist and a soft kiss planted on her cheek.

"Whatcha thinking about babe?" Naruto asked as she blushed and stopped washing the plate for a second.

"Just you my love." She replied and continued to wash the last few dishes.

"Oh yeah?" His arms wrapped tighter around her waist. "What about me?"

He was interested in hearing whatever she had to say. Y/N never really talked to Naruto about his self, but when she did, oh man when she did, his heart would flutter and his stomach would do flips.

"Just how amazing it is to have you in my life. How great it is that I have someone who I can depend on when I need them the most." She finishes the dishes and turned around in his arms, lacing her arms around his neck and leaned into the kitchen counter.

Naruto didn't say anything. He didn't have to, he felt the same for her as she did for him. They stood there, looking Into each other eyes as Y/N played with the hair on his nape of his neck, his thumb tracing patterns on her exposed skin on her hips from her shirt lifting as her arms were high

"God I love you Y/N."

"I know. I love you too Naruto."

They shared a soft and sweet kiss, pulling apart, she grabbed his hand and led him to their shared room and they went to sleep, cuddled close to each other.
