Imagine harassing bugs with Flick🐜

"Wow, you know so much more than I expected, Y/N!" Flick cheers once you finish reciting a research paper you had written for him on insects.

If only he  knew you had broken into his house last night and stolen his notes in order to prepare this.

Even though you technically cheated, you glow from his praise.

"Thanks! I would be what you'd call a bug expert," you say as you put your sheets away.

Flick laughs, and your heart feels like it's about to burst from your chest.

He was perfect...

As he settles back down, Flick sighs.

"It was sweet of you to invite me to your picnic." He tells you, his gaze on the tree canopy above you. "I'm having a great time, but I'm kinda sad nobody else showed up."

You take a drink from your cup, eyeing him curiously. Why would other people show up to your date?

"What do you mean?" You ask him, and he turns to watch you...suddenly suspicious.

"...Didn't you say you invited everyone?" He asks cautiously, and your eyes widen.

He had refused your previous requests for a date, so you had lured him out with an invitation to a group gathering. Needless to say, he had been the only one to recieve an invitation.

Quickly, you nod.

"Oh, right." You give him your sweetest smile, and he relaxes. "Yeah, I guess they were busy; it was pretty last minute."

Flick mirrors your smile before shrugging. "True, but hey. More sandwiches for us."

As he devours another mayo-and--jam sandwich, you watch him intently. His  soft features, his cool style, and the way his scales shimmered in the warm sunlight...you were sure this was what love felt like.

He meets your gaze for a second, and your stomach clenches.

You would do anything for him.

When he's occupied with eating another sandwich, you inch your hand towards his. When he feels your fingers brush against his, he looks at you in confusion.

He isn't t pulling away...a sign that fills you with hope.

"Hey, Flick?" You ask quietly, the trees around you rustling. "Could I tell you something?"

Flick remains puzzled, but he eventually nods.

"Of course you can."

This was it.

You were ready to pour your heart out to him.

"I...I think...I think I lov--"

Suddenly, a phone begins to ring, robbing the moment of its magic.

Flick blinks and pulls away from you to check  his screen. You blink as a fond expression washes over him.

"I'm so sorry, Y/N," he says, but he doesn't sound sorry at all. "I need to take this."

He eagerly accepts the call, and the glint in his eyes feels wrong

His greeting guts you.

"Hey babe."

Babe?!?!?!?!?!

Your pressure rises.

You didn't know Flick was already in a relationship. Is this why he always turned you down?! There was someone else?

You were seeing red, and it wasn't Flick's skin.

"Who was that?" You demand as he hangs up, the fury in your tone clear.

Flick stares at his phone absently until you snap your fingers. When he glances up, the sappy smile on his face causes you to twitch.

"Oh, it was my boyfriend C.J.," he says, and you don't think you'll ever know peace again. Oblivious to your rage, Flick continues, "I think you two know each other; he's mentioned you a few times."

As he goes back to texting this new challenger, you begin to calculate your next move.

That C.J rat had Flick wrapped around his finger...there was no way Flick would accept your feelings like this.

No...You would have to show Flick who was the better option.

Your eyes land on a bug at that moment, and you recognize it as deadly.

You weren't a science major (or were you? Hey, what's up) but you were sure if you diluted its venom enough...it would render Flick unconscious as opposed to dead.

But Flick had betrayed you enough for you to overlook the chances of him dying, which were significantly high. You had never worked with bugs before. Yes, the risks were high, but they were worth it.

As Flick mentions wanting a pudding cup, you agree to give it to him. Something C.J had texted him causes him to giggle, and this was all wrong.

It was nothing to worry about. You would right this soon.

As Flick begins to text his reply, you make your move.

You snatch up the bug and open the pudding cup you had packed that morning.

You silently mix in the crushed bug into the pudding cup, which turns an odd color.

Fuck it, you had no time to experiment with dilution. It was time to act.

Flick accepts the pudding and takes a mouthful, his face scrunching up instantly at the taste. When he meets your gaze, he offers you a polite smile.

He continues to eat; his good manners will be the end of him.

Flick finishes the cup quickly, eager to never touch it again. As time trickles by and nothing happens, you begin to fear that you've failed. It isn't until ten minutes later that hope returns to you.

As his eyes begin to droop, you grin.

Flick will be yours soon.
