Imagine being a war criminal🧚♀️
It was the Great War of 2069.
You hide behind a rock, your fellow soldiers unconscious around you. You did not care, for you were the one who shot them in the first place.
Yes. You were a one-person army now, not by force...but by choice.
Why? Why would you disable your own team?
The answer was simple: he was your kill and your kill alone.
You knew your General would not be pleased with this betrayal, but perhaps the death of Dom would subdue Isabelle's rage.
Dom...he would die by your hand and your hand alone.
You reload your weapon as the man himself stumbles into your vision, his loud coughs alerting you to his presence. Before being knocked out, Apollo had done a good job in setting off a small explosion next to Dom's hideout. The dust storm that ensued drew him out and placed him just where you needed him.
You bring your weapon closer and peer through the scope; Dom moves a little, and you narrow your eyes as you try your best to aim for the moving animal's head.
Once satisfied, you pull the trigger. The whirling of the bullet is deafening in the silence of the explosion's aftermath, and just before the bullet makes contact with your target, he moves.
The ground beside him explodes instead, and his head snaps up. His eyes land on you.
You curse. Now that he knew you were there, things could become complicated fast.
Before you can reload, Dom lunges across the ground towards you, a blur of movement that's difficult to track until he's directly on top of you.
"Why the fuck are you here?" He hisses as he grabs your weapon and throws it aside. You watch helplessly as it flops next to Bob, who merely yawns before curling up around it. Darn cat. You weren't getting that back anytime soon.
Instead of panicking, you turn to meet Dom's furious gaze leering at you from above. You were pinned down and defenseless; surely he would kill you here, with no witnesses around to stop him like last time.
Like last time.
What had gone wrong?
One second you were slow dancing with the man you loved, and the next, he was attempting to murder you. What happened to your love story, to the times when Dom was your beginning as opposed to your end? When he was home, not a stranger?
What happened to when he loved you?
Dom's eyes soften, and you know that the same questions plague him.
But you both knew the answer...
The introduction of the war, of the lies, of betrayal--they all drove a wedge between you.
Dom became friends with the enemy, and you became friends with violence.
Even as you remember the way he tried to kill you last month, memories of what you once were return to you all at once, leaving your vision blurry and your heart heavy.
As you meet his gaze, the sun above halos around his white fur.
Even when at his mercy, Dom was beautiful.
"Y/N..." He whispers, and you shut your eyes. You couldn't kill him. You knew you'd be incapable of doing this since the day Isabelle placed a target on his back. You shouldn't have agreed to doing this...not when your past together still hinders you the way it does.
"I love you, Dom," you say, and you hate how vulnerable you sound. But the words you spoke were true. "Please, just get this over with."
"I....I can't." He croaks, and when you open your eyes, you're surprised to see him sobbing. "I love you, Y/N. I'm so sorry..."
He loved you.
Even after everything, he still loved you.
Your heart races as he holds your face gently before leaning down to kiss you.
Before his lips can meet yours, however, you hear a shot ring out.
Dom flashes red before falling horizontally and dispersing into a cloud of smoke. Your eyes land on the floating potato left in his wake before looking up to spot Bob setting down your weapon.
When he meets your gaze, he shrugs.
"You were getting too into it." He explains as he walks over to help you to your feet. "I had to step in."
Once on your feet, you shake Bob off of you bitterly.
Dom was supposed to get the smoke from you, wasn't that what this whole plan led to?!
"Fuck you." You spit as you march over to where your fellow soldiers were starting to regain consciousness. "I said I wanted to do it."
You hear Bob following you, and you turn around to see that he's holding your weapon out to you.
You accept your weapon back from Bob before throwing it over your shoulder.
A quick glance around reveals a mob of people approaching from the south, the sun reflecting off of their weapons blindingly.
Your heart still beats rapidly from your final encounter with Dom, but you chalk it up to the nerves that preceded a good battle.
You didn't love Dom. You never did.
He knew this, and he knew of the things you've done. It's what led to you fighting on opposing sides in the first place.
"You...You kidnapped Tom Nook's kids?!" He asked once. You shrugged. You never remembered anything, everything a blur except for one thing.
Phyllis.
Before you can recall the realization you almost had that chapter, the mob suddenly materializes in front of you. They traveled fast, didn't they? It's a little confusing...
No matter.
You reload your weapon and aim at the nearest enemy.
It was hunting season.
