He was watching you.

You feel his eyes on you as you sit at Bob's table, an untouched bowl of cereal in front of you.

You had thought you would be safe at Bob's house...but he was everywhere.

"Hey, Bob?" You ask, cutting off his story about carrying the entire franchise on his back. He goes quiet and watches you expectantly. "Is...Is there someone behind me? Outside?"

You watch as Bob looks over your shoulder before nodding excitedly.

"oh, yeah!" He exclaims, and your stomach sinks. "How did you know?"

"Who is it?" You ask quietly, even though you already knew.

Despite knowing, hearing Bob confirm it terrifies you.

"It's that Lyle guy!" Bob answers, unaware of your terror. "I wonder what he needs; I already paid for that insurance thing he was selling."

You sink in your chair, but it does little to help. You can still feel his gaze.

Helplessly, you whisper, "He's been following me since last week."

Bob narrows his eyes after you reveal this.

"Do you want me to knock his teeth in, pthhpth?" He asks you, and his sudden seriousness spooks you.

You consider his offer.

"No." You answer after much consideration. "it's okay. I can do it myself."

"Cool!" Bob exclaims, smiling brightly once again. "Wanna borrow my sledgehammer, then?" 

You do.

...

"Alright, you whore!" You yell as you swing Bob's weapon over your shoulder, your eyes peeled for your target. "What do you want from me??"

He reveals himself easily enough, and though he doesn't appear to be armed, you remain on edge.

"Oh? Y/N!" Lyle calls in greeting as he walks towards you, ignoring the gear Bob had equipped you with before allowing you to leave his home. "What a surprise to run into you here."

You gawk at him.

Once you realize he isn't kidding, you fume,"What do you mean?? You've been stalking me for ages!!"

Lyle blinks.

"Oh, I guess you're right," he says slowly before smiling. It is not friendly, and it causes you to grip the sledgehammer tighter. "But you came out to meet me, so surely that means you're interested in buying some insurance, right?"

The audacity of this guy!! He had been terrorizing you for a sales pitch???

"NO! Now leave me alone before you're the one needing to purchase inurance."

The instant you say this, Lyle's smile falls. He stares at you intensely, and you feel a wave of dread seize you.

"Do not threaten me, for you do not know of my many connections." He whispers, and you freeze as he approaches you slowly. "I will have you regretting your words within seconds. You will buy an insurance plan from me if you know what's good for you, earthworm. You think this past week has been bad? Wait until we truly get started. I am notorious for breaking and entering. I will be the first thing you see every morning and the last every night. I shall terrorize your dreams. I shall--"

You bonk him over the head with the sledgehammer. He collapses.

Lyle does not move for three minutes. By the fourth minute, Bob exits his house and joins you, hovering over him.

After the fifth minute, Bob asks,"Do you need help hiding the body, Y/N?"

You wait another minute before nodding.

"yes please."

Bob gets to work instantly, and you follow after him in a bit of a haze.

"Yay!" He cheers, leading you behind his home towards a thick patch of trees. "I know the perfect spot; they'll never find him!"

...

It takes you an hour to reach Bob's spot.

You stand by a palm tree, keeping watch as Bob merrily digs a deep hole in the sand. Once he's done doing what must be done, the sand remains as smooth as it was before Lyle joined it.

Nobody would ever know.

As Bob joins you by the tree, you offer him a weak smile.

"You're a great friend, Bob." You tell him, and you mean it.

"So are you, Y/N." He replies, and he also means it.

You stand together, watching the sun set over the rising tide.

The waves would soon conceal the sin that lay here, and you would soon be free.
