Imagine betraying someone🍹
It was Day 2 of your decision to be a Good Person, and the urge to relapse was strong.
You twitch in the passenger's seat of Tangy's (stolen) white van as you roll up to Tom Nook's nasty store, and you feel like you're about to explode. You feel suffocated in the vehicle despite the open window...and you're afraid your change of heart may not last long...
You were not born to be a hero.
The van suddenly crashes into a tree, and you lurch forwards.
"My bad!" Tangy cheers happily as she undoes her seat belt and hops out of the van. You watch the smoke spiraling out from underneath the van's hood for a second before following suit, the blinding sun doing little to help you regain your senses as Tangy appears beside you.
"Ready, Y/N?" She asks, oblivious to your inner war.
You were not ready in the slightest.
She does not care.
"Nook won't see us coming. To the store!" She shouts before racing towards the front door. You didnt have the heart to tell her that she was very much visible and that Tom Nook had already spotted you both.
You follow after her slowly, a little confused. You weren't sure why Tangy had even brought you along in the first place. She said she was going to buy some fruit from the store, and you had been cornered into agreeing to help her carry them home.
It was okay with you. This would be your good deed for the day, and hopefully, a happy life filled with good deeds would sprout from this!
Tangy waits for you to catch up before you enter the store together. Having stolen all of your taxes recently, Tom Nook had been able to afford to upgrade the shithole. Despite it looking nicer, the Vibes were still considerably off.
As the bell above the door rings, Tom Nook looks up from where he sat behind his counter, reading something questionable.
"Ah, Tangy. Y/N. Good morning!" He greets, setting down his reading material in order to give his two latest customers his full attention.
Before you can greet him in return, Tangy whips out a shovel.
"Fuck you, this is a robbery!" She screams, and you freeze. A robbery?? What was going on??!?!?
You were here to be a Good Samaritan, not a hooligan!! Those days were long behind you!
Your eyes widen as you come to the only reasonable conclusion: the world was testing your determination to change your ways.
Well, fuck you world. You would pass this test easily.
Tom Nook does not flinch. In fact, he doesn't even seem to process the events of the past three seconds in the slightest. He simply smiles before nodding.
"Of course. Well, now that you're here, can I interest you in these new papers we got shipped today?" He asks, gesturing towards a table loaded with a vast arrangement of parchment. "Very pretty, and only 5000000 bells!!"
Tangy examines the table, and you relax as she gasps excitedly. She lowers her shovel before approaching the table.
"No way! That's pretty tempting...um, allow us a minute." Tangy says before grabbing you by the arm and dragging you aside. She lowers her voice, but youre sure Tom Nook can hear every word. "Y/N!! Did you hear that?! Hes got new paper. And they have little oranges around them!! Can we rob the store some other time?? Pleaaassse??"
"What?!" You say loudly, hoping Tom Nook can hear your indignation clearly. "I didn't sign up for a robbery! You told me we were here to buy fruit."
Tangy visibly deflates.
"Well...yes, that's true. You see, I wanted to free my ancestors, the oranges. I thought...I mean, if I buy them, I give him money. So I decided to rob them from him instead. We still have a mission to complete and I cant afford to get distracted!" Tangy shouts suddenly, now determined to see her crime to the end. You watch helplessly as she raises her weapon again. "Change of plans, Nook. Put your feet where I--"
Tom Nook looks up at you. You tense as you notice the rather large knife he's holding.
"Yes?" He asks and begins to polish it.
Menacingly.Your only warning.
Tangy, seemingly understanding this, drops her shovel as quickly as she had picked it up.
"N-Nothing!" She squeaks, grabbing your arm once again. "Nothing at all, Mr. Nook!"
You feel a relieved sigh escape you as Tangy leads you back towards her van, but it becomes stuck in your throat. A chilling realization strikes you...
You could not deny the thrill you felt when you believed you were about to partake in a robbery.
Crime, it was beautiful to you.
Why? Why did it appeal to you? Why did it hold such a metal grip over everything you did...everything you were??
You couldn't take it anymore.
You couldn't escape.
Being a Good Person was not working out, and the hot sun had left you parched.
You were irritable, and you were about to lose it.
"I think I have a wrench back here." Tangy tells you as she unlocks the van's side door. "I'll just have to use it to get the van to start up again. Maybe you should've drove, huh?"
As Tangy hops into the back of the van in search of her tools, you remember what she had said previously.
You keep this in mind as you observe her. If the oranges in the store were her ancestors, then that must mean...
"Y-Y/N?" Tangy asks as you step in after her. You knew no one other than Tom Nook would witness this, and you knew he was as heartless as you were. "Why did you close the door?"
You extract a blender.
As Tangy's eyes adjust to the dark, she lets out a terrified scream. The fate of her ancestors, rotting in Tom Nook's store and lining his shelves, would soon be hers.
For you see,
you were not a Good Person.
You never would be.
