"How's everything going on there? Are you guys okay?" Jill asks Chris on the phone.
"Yeah, Carlos and I are fine, Leon though, he's not doing so well..." Chris's voice was grim. A frown on his face as he talked. Despite feeling happy that he heard Jill's voice, he still couldn't help but feel worried for the two abroad.
"What? what happened?"
"He was beaten up when we got to his place, it looked like a tornado swept through the inside. Whoever it was left Leon's home when they heard us entering the place by basically breaking Leon's front door down. Listen, I just gotta know... where did you meet this guy?" His tone was hushed at the last sentence, making sure he wouldn't be heard by Carlos who was sitting at the seats near the door. The guy just showed up at the B.S.A.A. Headquarters when Chris landed. At first, Chris didn't believe him when Carlos told him that Jill sent him for help, but then Carlos showed Jill's phone number. He then let Carlos help him, after all, he did know that it would be safer and a lot more efficient if an extra hand was there. Chris was standing near the window, his eyes lingering at the busy streets of the night.
Jill chuckles, "Long story." Her voice then turns serious. "But be careful you three."
"We will. I gotta go."
"All right, bye." And with that, the call ends. Chris stuffs his phone in his pocket and turns his attention back to Leon who was getting his wounds cleaned up by the nurse. The doctors who checked him said that despite the bruises all over him, there were only a couple of minor fractures on his ribs, but he still needed to stay overnight for further observation.
I guess all of the years of being in service really toughened him up. Chris thought. When the nurse was done, Leon thanks the nurse and then exits the room.
"So, pretty boy, got any idea who might've done this to you?" Carlos asks, leaning back at his seat, placing his right foot at the top of his left knee.
"No. Nothing." Leon sighs. "But, I did put a tracker on whoever it was so, that's one problem down." Leon takes out his phone and opens an app. It showed a bright red dot moving at the main road.
Carlos gets up and looks at the screen of Leon's phone. "Looks like whoever-it-is heading here. We gotta move."
"He's got a point," Chris says. "We can't risk the civvies here." They quickly head out of the building and hopped inside Carlos' jeep, Carlos and Chris at the front while Leon sat at the back, and sped off.
"Hey," Chris calls Leon's attention.
"Yeah?"
"Weren't you about to tell me something about Jake and Sherry?"
"Oh, right. Hunnigan was able to pinpoint where they are; an abandoned lab; Tricell, seven miles from the spot they went missing. A team was sent there, and we're still waiting for a report."
"--uh, I hate to disturb the nice convo you guys are having but I think someone wants to join in!" Carlos says, his eyes glued to the side mirror on his left. Someone on a motorcycle was behind them. It sped up and moved to Leon's side, pulling out a gun. The person aims it at them and Carlos makes a sharp turn on the left street before the lights went red. Leon looks behind and doesn't see the bike anymore.
"We need to get rid of 'em permanently, can't head back to work if it's still following us." Carlos kept his eyes on the road, carefully avoiding the cars as he drove a couple of notches above the speed limit. Leon reached to the back of his pocket to get his phone when his hand brushed at a small bump at the belt of his jeans. He pulled off whatever it was and checked it.
A tracking device.
"Carlos, head to Pendleton Road. Go straight ahead and then turn to the third street you see. There's an abandoned construction site there."
"Why?"
"They got a tracking device on me. It's a big area. I can just toss this somewhere and then we'll lose 'em."
After a while of driving, they arrived at the construction site. There were
"There's an exit at this site, it's a steel gate, just follow the walls of this site and you'll see it. Wait for fifteen minutes. I'll plant this somewhere." Leon says and before the two of them could say anything, Leon hops out of the jeep and rushes inside the site.
"Leon!" Chris calls after him but it was too late, Leon had already climbed over the gates and gotten deeper into the property.
"Seriously!" Chris sighs.
"Let's go after him!" Carlos was about to get out of the jeep but Chris stops him.
"Leon knows what he's doing. He'll be fine. Let's go to the exit he was talking about."
"Are you sure?" Carlos asks.
"Not really, but then again, he has survived for this long," Chris explains before turning his head to the steel gates. Hoping that Leon's plan wouldn't fail.
"If you say so," Carlos replies before sitting comfortably at his seat as he begins to drive.
This better work, Kennedy. Chris thinks as he stares at the road ahead of them.
