We got off the train about 5 in the third cycle. The school wasn’t big, only about the size of a hotel. After getting our IDs, we were lead down a hallway to a white room by a Kinog lady. Once we all were inside, she spoke to the twenty-four of us.

“I am Parthenia Valdes. I will be you headmistress While you are in this school, you will be put into family groups. Family groups will be your family and the name of the group will be your last name in the virtual world. Family groups will also compete in the Family Cup. Throughout the school year, you will be able to gather points for your family. Good behavior is rewarded with points, meanwhile bad behavior can mean a deduction of points. But let’s not think of that now, shall we? The sorting hasn’t even begun!

“How you will get sorted is that beyond the door behind me there is a virtual reality pod that each of you will take turns going through it’s program. Using the test results, we will place you in constructive groups. There are four family groups that all the A.S.O.’s use. There is a song that will be played to show you what they are. Sit down on any of the benches on the side as you wait. When I exit, the music will play.” The lady turned and walked out. We all sat down quietly waiting for it to start. There was silence.

“Maybe they are having trouble with the speakers?” One of the other students suggested.

“Maybe they brought us to the wrong room?” A girl inquired. We started to hear an acapella chores coming from each of the corners of the room.

“There it goes.” Renea says. The song was very pretty, and so the soloist comes in with a beautiful voice.

“Several years ago, a system was founded,

Several years ago, out of kind hearts

For orphans of the street and land,

Came together, Came to band,

So all of us play our parts.

“The Regalwind of intelligence,

The Starbow of the loyal,

A Ravenfury starts to fight

While Doomscar’s secrets burn bright

Come together, Come to band,

To save the orphans of the land.”

We sat in silence as the song ended. The intercom sat silently, then called a girl named Jaleesa Barraza was called. Chatter started to build up, and so me and the three girls I was with started to talk. Soon another name was called.

“So do you feel awkward being the only guy in the group?” Renea asks me.

“No, not really.”

“Why don’t we try to guess what we are going to get on the test?” Amika suggests. We all didn’t really care, so why not? “I think I’m going to be Starbow.”

“It would make sense, from what I have seen.” Naki said. “I think I’d make Ravenfury. Fighting is my style.”

“It does seem to be.” Renea added. “I’d prefer Regalwind this time.”

“Says the one who reads books in her free time.”

“Hey, it proves my point.” They turned to me. “What do you think you’ll get, Dron?” I shrug.

“Come on, you must have at least an idea.” Naki urged.

“If it helps, I don’t think you would be in Doomscar or Starbow.” Renea said.
