Seeing she still kept the acorn you gave her gave you new hope. You knew she was still the one, you just knew it; nobody else could complete you the way she did. She had also felt that way at one point, and you longed for her to feel it again.

If you didn't have games on the weekend and practices during the week you would've flown to Japan to try and see her. The best you could do was mail flowers and handwritten letters.

Each day without a response felt like another knife in your chest. Rosie consumed your thoughts day and night. You stared at your favorite picture of you two together, rubbing your thumb over it fondly as you remembered how being with her felt like sunshine. She still wasn't answering and you were beginning to lose hope. You texted again anyway.

You didn't expect anything, but just as you were about to sleep your phone rang

You didn't expect anything, but just as you were about to sleep your phone rang. It was her. As you picked up your heart was thumping so loudly you were worried she might be able to hear.

"Rosie... It's really you."

"(Y/n)... yeah, hi. You wanted to talk."

How you had missed that sweet voice, even if it was colder than usual. "Yeah, thanks for giving me a chance. Hey look... I know you don't want to talk to me right now Rosie. I understand. After the way I acted, I wouldn't want to talk to me either. I'm not asking you to take me back or even forgive me. All I want is a chance to properly apologize."

"Ok" she said quietly.

You took a deep breath. "I'm so sorry things turned out this way for us. This was never what I wanted, but I take full responsibility. I was selfish, childish and stupid. All the fame, money, status, I was caught up in it but it's all meaningless without you. I regret so much that it took me until now to realize. Even if I didn't act like it, I always loved you Rosie, and I still do. You're the best thing that's ever happened to me, and I apologize from the bottom of my heart that I didn't treat you like it."

There was silence for a minute as she digested your words. You heard her sniffle a little bit. When she replied her tone was slightly warmer.

"Thanks for apologizing (y/n). It means a lot to me. I really really loved you, and I cared about you - and I still do - so it really hurt me to feel like you didn't care about me."

You were stunned. "You... you still love me?"

"Of course I do (y/n). You will always have a special place in my heart."

Your heart leapt. "Then... does it mean you'll give me another chance?"

She sighed. "I don't know (y/n). Not right now. I'm still trying to process everything. I do appreciate your sincere apology, but I don't think I'm ready to be on speaking terms yet. I'm not saying never, just... not right now."

"I get it. But maybe soon...?"

"I don't know (y/n). If I am, I promise I will let you know. But for now... I'd like it if you could please just give me some space."
