Corinth's Pov

After class, Mrs. Jones wanted to see us immediately. She starts by laying out the guidelines, rules, and restrictions. It took her roughly 5 minutes to do so and it felt like the longest 5 minutes of my life. The reason being no one muttered a word, just exchanged awkward glances from time to time.

" Ok, so ladies and gentlemen." Mrs.Jones then claps to make sure and apprehend our undivided attention.

" I have done my research." she smiled to herself in a high and mighty manner.

" May I add to which would give us, the very best chance of winning first place, also note that I'm not going to be one of those teachers that say have fun it's all about the experience." She paused as though to reevaluate her choice of words.

" Don't get me wrong, it's just that I participated in this exact competition years ago and one of my teammates took another team's idea." She paused as she reminisced back to that time, taking us with her.

" It costed us just about everything, we were exempted from competing and were banned to ever enter another one."

" So umm. . ." I tensed up.

" It's ok Corinth you may continue," Miss said throwing up a comforting smile.

" Although the other team members." I started looking at my toes and fiddling with my thumb before continuing.

" Although you all didn't help him, why was it that everyone was punished so heavily?"

" That's the thing, it's like a Peter pays for Paul sorta system in this world." She added her voice serenading with emotion.

" After all it's a team effort and teamwork, no one man goes down by himself." We all listened intently.

" Oh, I see, well we won't disappoint," I was keen on graduating with a high GPA and recommendations that got me into Harvard.. Last year I wasn't given the opportunity because of the incident. I felt like I died inside but this year I would make up for all, that I lost the chance to experience.

Lexa turns to look at me "That is unless some people don't mess up." she spewed with bitterness in her tongue. I hadn't seen this side of Alexa and it was uncomfortable to watch.

"Ok students, let's not start by biting off each other's head," Mrs.Jones said to which we all began laughing.

"Now Where were we?"

*******

Mrs.Jones discussed the finer details and assigned us to our individual parts. We had our first group meeting and Caleb suggested the library as we had secondary resources nearby. Miss couldn't accompany us due to a family emergency.

After the meeting, she asked me to stay back. She explained to me that I needed to keep holding my head up. She insisted that what happened to me didn't make me any less of a person. That it made me a sedulous person. I asked what it meant and cliche enough she just said look in the mirror. Thanks, miss

I joined Kimmy, Alexa, and Derrick at our usual spot in the cafe; between the Geeks and Gothics.

From time to time people would come up to us to talk to Kimmy. Kimmy was pretty popular, she joined the Cheerleading in our first year and  obviously made the team and she was nominated as captain like a month into training. Her optimistic and energetic nature exuded an energy that attracted the crowd.

"So fish sticks, what did that old witch want?" Kimmy asked as she stuffed her face with French fries while sipping on her milk frappe.

" Hey don't call her that, she isn't half bad," I said in Mrs. Jones's defense.
