Corinth's Pov
I tilted my head to see my mom standing in the distance. The stare in her eyes, intense, almost burning into mines. "Get off of her." The harshness in her voice caused Caleb to stop in his tracks, he removed himself from hovering over me and walks back against the wall.
"Mom it's not what. . ."
"Don't you dare lie to me, I raised you better than that." she snarled as she bit the corners of her lips.
"I'm sorry, that I choose to come out like you." My voice becomes wicked as I send her a sadistic glare, I proceeded to throw my shirt over my head and grabbed Caleb's hand as I retreated toward the entrance of the door.
"Where do you think you're going?" her hands that seemed to be tremoring held mines.
"Away from you, if you really want to know." I tugged myself away from her but she pulls me back with all her might as she begins to sob. Her eyes desperately seeking answers, answers that I wasn't keen on sharing.
"Corinth why are you doing this? why is this boy driving a wedge between us?"
"It's honestly funny mom." I almost cried but I couldn't show weakness, instead, I let out a light chuckle to fixate my emotions. "That you would think it's his fault, when you are the problem, and you know what hurts mom?" I stepped closer and wrapped my hands around her, placing my face inches away from her ear. "The fact that everything I've known was a lie." I pulled back just as quickly causing her to stagger backward.
"Caleb let's go." I grabbed his hand, his lips were slightly parted but I had no time to explain, nor was I aware how to.
"No Corinth." Caleb's hands were slowly taken out of mines. "That's your mom, speak to her."
"I'm sorry but I cant." A tear raced down my cheeks and I didn't waste any time as I ran toward the staircase, I felt the cold wind of the air conditioner knock against my shirt. I stepped out of the house breathless. I knew my emotions were too heavy.
I didn't have a specific location in mind, but I already knew where I needed to go.
****************
"Strange seeing you here." I hadn't the slightest idea where Shenelle would have been, But I knew that she enjoyed walking close to the riverside. Caleb mentioned it from time to time.
" Strange yes you can say that." She sat near the rocks and watched as the river flowed along, making ripples as It knocked into branches that extended into it.
I stood nervous, awaiting her words to initiate that I was able to take a seat near her.
" Alexa, is that why you're here?" she looked up at me, as she wiped away an evident tear that was about to fall.
" Yes." I nodded. " Can I ?"
"Sure, I guess it's time we spoke." she shifts around a bit and tapped the seat nearest.
" Thanks." I took a seat near her and pulled my knees against my chest.
"Don't thank me, I don't need it." Her harsh facade that seemed hidden, returned. " Why did your mom do it?"
"Huh." I looked over at her, I was confused. " Do what?"
"She never told you." she smiled and frowned as she turns to look at the river.
" I like looking at the water, as it comes and goes, but it never stops."
" why?"
"It's like my mom, she was it here, but she isn't anymore but her love never stops, just like the river." Another tear rolled down and she turns to me." Why did your mom sleep with a married man?"
