A/N: This first part was written to portray the sense of helplessness felt immediately after Jehan tells us of his inevitable death and so I could include this brilliant song sung by Jos Slovick (face claim for Avenir) but in reality the "voice singing" it is supposed to be Jehan.
Listen to the song while you read the first part of the update! It makes it much more haunting...
Bold is Enjolras POV, the rest is Avenir POV
~Vive La France~
I am a poor Wayfaring stranger.
I'm travellin' through this world of woe.
Yet there's no sickness, toil, nor danger,
In that bright land to which I go.
I'm going there to see my father.
I'm going there no more to roam.
I'm only going over Jordan.
I'm only going over home.
What to say? What could be said?
Silence, as we felt the weight of the situation.
Silence, as we wished for it not to be true.
Silence, as I remembered what Lamarque had said – you can't bring back the dead.
Silence, as I wondered if this was really Jean Prouvaire, my brother, standing in front of me, wiping away his tears...or was it just a spirit? Soon to be lost, as soon as he had been found?
Silence, and then I was sobbing once again in my brother's arms.
I know dark clouds will gather 'round me.
I know my way is rough and steep.
But golden fields lie just before me,
Where God's redeemed shall ever sleep.
I'm going home to see mother.
And all my loved ones who've gone on.
I'm only going over Jordan.
I'm only going over home.
Silence. What do you say to something you know is true, something that can't be helped?
Silence. To see someone you had come to think of as the one who could save the day – to see her look so helpless that you know there is nothing you can do to save him now.
