"Leave this place," he growled, and the man fled into the darkness.  Once Cabuc rounded the corner, Enjolras quietly knelt and bowed his head.

The other amis silently followed suit, and I slowly knelt on the ground, listening to the chaos continue from the National Guard front.

It seemed as if I couldn't shed a single tear...the pain was far too great for even tears.  Eventually, the Guard quieted down, and their angry grumbles subsided into silence.

I heard a noise from close by.  I opened my eyes and watched as Enjolras slowly stood, replaced the rifle in his belt, then came over to me and touched my shoulder.  He knelt again, and he quietly wrapped his arms around my back.  I leaned into him and let his warmth relieve my pain.

A soft rain fell.

The barricade was quiet.

Then, a bloodcurdling moan.

Grantaire had returned to the barricade, and stumbled straight towards me.

"AVENIR!  I'm sorry, I'm a disgrace, someone shoot me now!  I don't deserve to live!" he cried out, beside himself with despair.  "It was my idea, if I hadn't gone, he wouldn't have followed, and -"

"Grantaire, STOP IT, I BEG!" I yelled.  He froze in his tracks.

I let go of Enjolras, stood, and embraced Grantaire in a hug.  "I could never be mad at you.  My brother would have wanted us to celebrate his life, not mourn him.  He agreed to do this with you, he chose to follow you into the dark and unknown!  He would have done it with or without you, because that's the kind of person he was.  He gave his life for our cause...made the ultimate sacrifice.  We have no time for mourning, this is a revolution, and we're going to win.  Do you understand?"

Grantaire nodded, two tears trickling down his cheeks.

"Now, as we don't have much time, would you please tell me what occurred down the street from the Corinthe?"
