To celebrate, I'm sharing 10 interesting facts about "the making of" Avenir.
1. I came up with the idea for this story years ago.
I was just too shy to put it on Wattpad. However, there were some definite changes that were made when I decided to publish!!! I was inspired to put it up on Wattpad after reading several Les Miz fan fictions, the main one being "Adieu." That was the real spark that set me off writing this thing!!! And I also made my Wattpad account my second or third week into college as a reward for transitioning into a new place in my life :)
2. The first scene I wrote was Chapter 14, "Him."
This is the part where Avenir finds Enjolras at his desk, and they meet for the first time in years. This is special because it's when the artifact gets sealed back together, and the two friends are reunited. This probably remains as my favorite scene.
3. The artifact was based off of the movie "Tomorrowland."
This is my favorite fact to share with you!!! The artifact might be hard to picture in your head, but it was based off of the magical letter "T" used in Tomorrowland. This was a 2015 movie, so perhaps I was already creating this story inside of my head 6 years ago! This is one of my favorite movie trailers of all time (the movie itself stinks, but the trailer is fantastic!) Hope watching it gives you a better sense of what the magical letter "E" is supposed to do.
Update: I watched it a second time since writing the fic and I love it! You'll see hints of Avenir in the two female characters. Highly recommend; idk why I said it stinks :(
4. The "I wish" idea came from Magic Tree House.
This is a popular kids book series in the US. Brother and sister Jack and Annie find a magical tree house in the woods. They find books there, and when they point at the books and say "I wish we could go there," they can travel across time and space. These books were my childhood, and I'm so glad they inspired me to write about the power of wishes here.

5. Initially, Avenir was going to be just a normal kid!
Like a Broadway fangirl! I wrote her character as being obsessed with all things Les Miz (literally a depiction of myself) and her parents bought her plane tickets to fly to Paris. There, she went on a "Victor Hugo history tour" and found the artifact by slipping away from the tour group when they were touring the Café Musain. A much different background, but I liked having Avenir be from an apocalyptic city instead.
6. Avenir was going to bring futuristic items to the past with her!
The funniest being bottles of soda. The Broadway fangirl Avenir was going to have an obsession with soda, and she was going to break Grantaire's habit of alcoholism by introducing him to soda, which wasn't real famous yet in France. She was also going to spray Thénardier in the face with soda to escape from him!
Update: I'm glad I was able to add a soda scene, because it was kind of a new invention at the time. You'll see it later on!
7. Avenir was going to meet Javert in the galleys!
Initially, I was going to have Avenir work for Javert in the galleys, while working in secret to help the convicts! This ended up not working out, because someone would have totally caught her, and I couldn't figure out a way to have her meet Valjean...
8. Aaron Tveit was going to be part of the story.
We all love this guy, if you don't know who he is, he's the actor who played Enjolras. I was going to have a part after the barricades where Avenir is sent back to the future (back when she was a simple Broadway fangirl and her future life was happy) and she is trying to go back. She was going to see Aaron in a show and then they would recognize each other from the past...this wasn't as cool as having an apocalyptic future to save, so again, I took it out.
9. I have already written the ending.
Nospoilers!!! But it's going to be epic...I wish I could share it with you right now, that's how much I love it.
Update: I already have the ending of the sequel planned out so keep reading! :)
10. There will be at least a sequel.
I am thinking, for right now, that this will be a trilogy series. I already have many plot points planned for the sequel, as well as the names for the next two books. If I ever finish this one!!!
