"Hand me the wrench." Steve said not looking away from the car, the hood was open and Soda was standing on the other side. I slid off the storage box wrench in and hand and handed it to him. I hung out at the DX after school everyday since being home alone was something I never liked, I felt safe when Steve was home. Don't get me wrong I'm strong, tough, and can hold my own but it's a different feeling when it's your home you are afraid of. "I'll be right back." I said walking into the storefront. Steve nodded in agreement as I walked off and Soda took my place in handing Steve tools. I grabbed a cold soda and leaned over the counter to put a nickel in the cash register I couldn't get behind the counter due to the door being behind the counter. I'm not exactly the tallest person, I'm kind of small in stature only 5'5 I was barely taller than Pony and Johnny but everyone else is taller than me. I was struggling to get the drawer open without dropping the nickel, "Hey Cat, need some help?" A familiar voice came from the front door. I turned my hair semi in my face but through my hair I could tell who it was. "Yes!" I exclaimed, catching my breath the counter digging into my stomach. Two walked behind me and lifted me up, I opened the drawer and put the nickel in and he slowly helped me down. "Thanks." I said struggling to get the cap off. "Here let me see it." He said taking the bottle and using the counter to break the top off. "You're gonna have to teach me how to do that someday." I said giggling and taking it back. "If I did what would you need me for." He said smiling. "Well Steve prolly needs me." I said smiling. "Sure hun go ahead." He said as I walked past him. "Don't steal anything." I said turning and laughing, he gave me a sly smile and saluted. The sun hit his grey eyes and they shimmered, I had a weird feeling in my stomach...I'd never felt something like this, I finally unclamped my hand from the door and rushed outside my hands were sweating and my ears felt warm. I shot back a drink of soda trying to cool myself off and walked back over to Soda and Steve. They must have finished cause they were just leaning against the car talking. "Hey Cat, what took so long?" Steve said looking over at me. "Oh nothing." I said setting the coke on the ground. "You ok Cat you look sick." Soda said as I straightened myself. "What do you mean?" I said pushing my hair behind my ears. "Ya Cat your face Is red..." Steve said walking towards me. "And you're burning up." He said feeling my forehead. "I'm fine Steve it's just the heat." I said trying to reassure him. I know why I was burning up because I couldn't shake that feeling. "Soda can you cover my shift." Steve said. "No Steve really I'm fine." I said trying to talk him out of leaving. "Well your not going home alone, especially if you are sick." He said wrapping his arm around me. "You sure you got this alone." Steve said asking Soda. Soda nodded and Steve and I started walking away. We were silent for the majority of the time all I could think about was how I felt which just made me blush even more. "Wow you really are sick." He said putting his hands in his pockets. "What do you mean?" I asked confused. "Because you've never gone this long without talking." He let out a little laugh he was obviously proud of himself. I punched him in the arm, he dramatically grabbed his arm falling against a tree. "Ahh Man down." He said, sliding down the tree laughing. I let out a little laugh and he jumped back up. "Hah! I got you to laugh." He said putting his arm back around me. "Cmon no more messing around let's get you home." I don't know what I'd do without my brother.
