Te Adore (Book One)

Chapter Twenty One

-Two days later after school-
Finally school was out, I was free to relax and enjoy the summer. And for once I had someone to do that with! I walked through the front door and threw my backpack on the ground flopping onto the bed. I still haven't spoken much with Steve  and it's been really hard on me. I heard him come home and he was probably heading towards the Curtis  house like always so I decided to head that way. I didn't see Two yesterday and he wasn't at school today so I was starting to worry about him. I made it to the Curtis  house and sat on the front steps with Pony and Johnny   while Darry and Soda tossed a football back and forth. We sat and talked for awhile until Steve  arrived. I just muffled "hi." and went back to talking to Pony and Johnny  . He just joined in with Darry and Soda, I was getting a little more nervous the longer I sat there. Not knowing where Two was scaring me, he could be stumbling drunk or dead in a ditch and I would never know. "Have you seen Two in the past Two days." I questioned Johnny   and Pony. "Uh...no, he left early from school yesterday." Pony said looking over at me. "Ya I haven't seen him." Johnny   responded. I rolled my eyes and looked back down. "That was helpful." I huffed standing up. I turned facing the house and leaned against the pillar. I kept rubbing my head trying to think of places Two might be. "Oh my god where are you." I whispered to myself trying to think. "Right here." a voice said as Two arms grabbed my waist and swung me in a circle playfully. I turned to face him. "Two !" I yelled wrapping my arms around his neck and he pulled me into a hug. "Where the hell have you been?" I said, pulling away. He snickered and looked down at me. "Well actually...I've been working." He said with a smile on his face. It took me a second to process it. "What!" I said my face lit up in excitement and I pulled him into another hug. I turned the group and was dumbfounded that of all the people Two could get a job, especially Steve  he looked like a deer in the headlights. I laughed to myself while Two rocked me back and forth in his arms."where are you working?" Darry said walking over. "The butcher shop down the street from the dingo, they're letting me apprentice there." He said rubbing my arms. And looking over at Darry. "Sounds like a good pay." Darry said. "Well it's not much but it's a start." he said smiling. He kissed me on my cheek and stood back up, "Hey, it hasn't been a week." Steve  said, staring at him. "Whatever man." Two said rolling his eyes and wrapping his arm around me. We went back to relaxing and enjoying the freedom of summer. Two walked over to me and sat on the step next to me wrapping his arm around me. "Y'know I'm really proud of you." I said resting my head against his shoulder. "Couldn't have done it without you baby." He said kissing the top of my head. He rubbed my arm and held me close to him, as it neared closer to lunch we decided to head to the dingo for some lunch and to celebrate Two getting a job. He had his arm around me the entire walk there, I could feel the harsh glances Steve  kept giving me and Two . We got a table and all sat down, we ordered a light meal and planned to have a nice dinner later. It was nice to be with the whole group, even my brother no matter how angry we were at each other. We laughed and joked and Two even helped pay the bill. After a nice lunch we all walked back to the Curtis  house, I decided to detour to my house to change into something more summer weather friendly. I was all changed and ready to leave when I heard a knock on my bedroom door.
