A week had passed since the fight, Two was able to get up and was moving by the third day but darry forced him to come back to the Curtis house every day to be careful. I started meeting him halfway at the park before he went home, we never did more than talk and I told him I was only meeting with him to have an excuse from going home and dealing with my father. I've been distancing myself from Steve not completely but when I had a chance to be alone or leave I took it. But back to present time, I was sitting on a bench waiting for Two but he was taking longer than normal. I messed with my hair and was contemplating getting up and leaving, but I decided to wait a bit longer, lifting my legs up onto the bench I curled myself into a ball. It was chilly outside and it was getting close to freezing the darker it got. I heard footsteps coming up from over the hill, I shot my head up and it was him. Two had his hands in his jacket pockets and he looked up almost at the same time as me. "Two!" I shouted flying off the bench and running over to him. "Woah, hey Cat." He said stopping in his tracks. "Thought you wouldn't show up, almost thought I'd have to go home." I said looking over at him with a shy smile. "Oh, sorry." He said looking down. "Hey, I didn't mean it like that." I said walking closer to him. "No your fine, anyways Darry said today's the last day I've gotta go over there." He said looking back up at me. "Wh-what..." I questioned, I knew this would happen but so fast. "S-so this is it..." I said looking at him he was still looking away. I really was using this as an escape, I thought I could be normal when I was around Two I didn't feel as free. To be honest I was scared to go home, I'd been staying away for so long and when I came home either Steve wasn't home, my dad wasn't home, both weren't home, or neither of them noticed me sneaking in. "It's...it's fine, let's just go." I said looking back down and starting off. I stuffed my hands in my pockets and kept walking, he soon followed behind me but we didn't speak and it didn't feel like the right time to speak. I didn't understand why he flipped so fast, the past few days I've never felt closer to him but now he's so cold and distant. I stepped onto the pavement in front of my house and walked over to the door, I turned to look behind me and Two looked for a moment before turning and walking away. I went to push the door open but all I could hear was bickering, nothing new to me but I wasn't ready to deal with it right now. I opened the door quietly and snuck in Steve and my father were fighting in the kitchen. I tried walking quietly so the floorboards didn't creak, but knowing my luck I tripped on one of Steve's work shoes and banged my knee on the coffee table. Steve walked out to see what the noise was from, my dad was still shouting. "Cat-Catherine." He said standing in the doorway, "Catherine where have you been." He said walking over to me. "No where." I pushed to the side and went towards the hallway. "Catherine please." He said grabbing my wrist to stop me, I turned back to face him. "Let go." I said trying to pull my wrist away from him, "Catherine, it's been a week I haven't seen you once." He said walking closer to me still holding my wrist. "Steve...let go." I said pushing away from him. "What's the pro-blew." My father said slurring his words, I didn't want to be anywhere near him let alone Steve. "Steve let go of me now." I said prying at his hand. "Catherine...why." He said grabbing my wrist tighter trying to pull me away from the hallway. "LET GO!" I finally let out, he stunned and dropped my wrist and I bolted for my room taking my chance while I had it. He ran after me but I closed the door before he got to me, I slid down the door and sat balled up on the ground. "Cat...Cat please." He said leaning against the door. I stayed silent, he lightly hit the door with his palm. "Catherine please we need to talk." He said turning the door knob. I pushed against the door until he gave up. I could feel tears in my eyes, I've been putting up with so much for so long pushing all down deeper, it was like my whole world was falling apart. I shot my hand up and locked the door and walked over to the window. Steve hit the door harder "Catherine unlock the door, CATHERINE!" He yelled fumbling with the doorknob. I threw the window up and jumped down. It was dark and cold, but I didn't care about that I needed air. I needed to be alone, I Walked aimlessly for an hour or so and ended up near the football field. It was weird seeing it so empty I went and sat in the middle of the field looking up at the stars, this was what I needed to get away from the world for just one moment.
