"Family is supposed to be our safe haven. Very often, it's the place where we find the deepest heartache."

Dom's comment took me aback. It'd been so out of the blue that I wasn't quite sure where his compliment came from. However, I didn't dwell on it long because we reached the road leading to my house. I wish it'd taken longer to get there, because then maybe my sister would've escaped in time.

Dom slammed on the brakes to avoid crashing into his parent's car. My forehead nearly became one with the dashboard had he not thrown his arm out in front of me.

"Oh, no," he breathed.

"They're trapped," I said, staring at my sister, who sat in the passenger seat of Spencer's car. Killian and the Parks sisters were in the car behind him. Unbeknownst to the rest of my pack and the Starks, Rey and Finn escaped quickly behind Elsa and Spencer. They were in the car with them, but I saw them duck down. If the others had seen them, they gave no indication of it as the two runaways stepped out of the car.

"What is he doing?" Dom said.

I stared at the two runaways in horror. "They're not going to challenge them, are they?"

"I don't know. Come on." The two of us got out of the vehicle, going to stand beside Dom's parents along with Lily and Callie. Callie still wore her wedding dress, not having had time to change into regular clothes. She looked ready to rip out my sister's throat. I prepared myself up for a fight, ready to pounce on the red-headed bride at a moment's notice.

"Mom, dad, please move aside so we can leave," Spencer requested, his voice firm but gentle. His diplomatic approach insinuated he knew how precarious this situation was, how the smallest movement could mean the end of his life or Elsa's.

My eyes shifted to movement behind him. It was my parents, making their way over to stand beside the Starks. Hayley and Chris ordered us to stand with my brothers, who were guarding the other side to prevent any escape that direction. Dom, Callie, Lily, and I listened.

Elsa and I shared a look as I walked by. I was the only one who could sense how terrified she was. I almost went over to her, but she must've realized my intentions because her voice entered my head, saying sternly: Stay.

"Spencer, if you come back now, we can forget all of this," Chris said.

"Dad, I'm not coming back unless I can stay with Elsa. I love her — no one else. I'm not going to allow myself or anyone else to be forced into a marriage. I can't do it."

"Your duty is to your pack, not to your heart."

"I'm doing what's best for my pack, and that's leaving. They need an Alpha who can ignore whatever their heart desires and that Alpha is not me. I'm sorry."

"Elsa, you have a say in this, too," dad spoke up.

"I do, and I know what I'm choosing," my twin replied, her voice steady. "We're not going to be controlled by you or the others anymore."
