Dried out...
Most of the class goes by quickly and during the last ten minutes, Scott asks the students a question,
"Is there anything, in particular, any of you want to know?" Allison was tapping the back of her pen rapidly and shot her hand up. Scott smirked and motioned for her to ask away.
"I actually have two questions. One, is there a possibility some creatures don't know what they are? And two, can some creatures manipulate emotions?" Allison slightly glanced at Noah, who looked completely love-struck.
"Well, there are... some supernatural beings who have no idea what they're doing. They don't even know that they're a creature, to begin with. But, if a person were to be possessed, they'd be aware of what they were doing at all times. They just wouldn't have the power to stop it." Scott explained. She nodded her head along so that he knew she was listening.
"And yes, there are some mythological creatures who can manipulate emotions." He smiled at the teenager and the bell rang. She pushed Noah's shoulder lightly and he looked up at her with yellow eyes. She quickly pushed his head down and they walked out of the room.
"Noah, what happened?" She asked her best friend.
"I don't know, my heart is beating extremely fast." He said.
"Okay, just breathe." He took deep breaths and soon his eyes turned back to their original dark brown.
"Ready for Mr. Dena's class?" The boy asked.
"Absolutely not," Allison answered, as they walked into class. The rest of the day went by pretty normal. The four teenagers finally hit their off period and they all met up in the hallway.
"Jack knows we're on our way, he says there's something we need to see," Tara explained.
"Okay, we're just gonna head to the library," Allison announced, grabbing Travis's hand and leading the way. Noah and Tara waved goodbye and left for the hospital. When they got there, Tara parked her bike and turned to Noah.
"Why'd you want to come with me?" She asked.
"What do you mean?" He tried to act like he had no idea what she was talking about.
"Just ask me what you wanna ask!" The blonde pushed.
"Okay, how do you control it? How can you just shift and unshift?" Noah asked.
"You need to know what keeps you calm. Find that anchor, whether it's yourself, a memory, or a person. The one thing I learned is that pain will always bring you back." Tara replied.
"What's your anchor?" He wondered.
"Mine used to be the anger I felt. I didn't really have much at the time, so I had to be my own. But after I moved here, I met you guys and now the three of you are my anchor. Allison is yours, the sooner you come to terms with that, the easier it'll be." She told the boy. He sighed, but didn't say a word.
"As for the other things like hearing, smells, and the howl, it's mostly just concentration and focus, but the howl is usually a disaster the first time." The blonde giggled, making Noah laugh as well.
"Thanks."
"No problem. I can help you, you'll be a great werewolf." She said as the two entered the hospital. They walked into the elevator and went straight into the basement, meeting Jack at the morgue.
"Great to see you, I've been examining this boy all day." His English accent spoke quickly.
"What'd you find?" Noah asked curiously.
"I found out that this person drowned from the water, inside of their body. There was no physical harm done." The doctor explained.
"So, how do you drown from the water inside of your body?" Tara asked.
"That's the thing, you can't. This boy was completely soaked, not only did he choke on the water, he sweated so much, it looked like he took a shower."
"Oh my God." The teens spoke in sync.
"The issue with this is that the boy doesn't have a single drop of water left, in any part of his body," Jack stated.
"You think someone absorbed the water?" Tara questioned.
"My thoughts exactly. Another weird thing I noticed is that when he died, his body was producing extremely high levels of dopamine."
"Dopamine? Like the chemical, your brain produces when you're in love?" Noah asked the doctor.
"Correct." He responded. The two teenagers looked at each other knowing this can't be something good. They both hoped Allison and Travis found something to help. Jack walked them to the front doors, giving Noah a firm handshake and Tara a hug. While she was in the hug she whispered,
"If anyone else comes in like that, text me. Whether it's a boy or girl." They pulled apart and he nodded, silently telling her that he would. Tara and Noah got on the bike and rode back to the school. Not only did the teenagers have an off period but they had lunch right after. The two walked back into the building and made their way over to the table they sat at every day. They waited and waited, but Allison and Travis never showed up.
