A Second Longer...

"How is she?" Everyone asked in sync.

"Her heart rate is down but she reeks of fear," Tara explained. Allison's body started to shake uncontrollably. You heard her gasping for breath, while she started to cough up water.

"Turn her on her side, now! She's going into the second part of the game." Jack told them all.

"Second part?" Lydia questioned.

"There are three stages. If the person is able to beat the fox without any outside help, they move forward. The problem is that no one has ever beaten Void by themselves to get to stage two."

"Until now." Scott butted in. Inside of Allison's subconscious, she fell into a pool of water. The nogitsune pulled her feet down, trying to drown her. At that moment she just wanted to stop and give up. She felt like her head was going to explode. On her physical body, everyone saw her face starting to get red.

"She's not breathing!" Noah shouted.

"Everybody, stay quiet. Stiles, Lydia, grab her hand and start talking to her. Bring her back." The doctor demanded. Stiles grabbed his daughter's hand with tears in his eyes.

"Allison, I don't know if you can hear me, but I need you... we all need you." He spoke, as tears were evident in everyone's eyes. Allison heard his voice echoing through the water. She wanted nothing more than to fight her way to the surface, but she was getting held down and Void was just too strong.

Allison was waiting for her reflex to kick in. The girl was in so much pain from holding her breath, she just wanted it to stop. In her head, the only words she could come up with were, I'm sorry.

"Do you remember what you told us, the day I asked if you were alright?" Lydia questioned, moving closer and grabbing her daughter's hand. You saw physical tears start to fall from her body.

"You told us how you felt and you said how you still stood there, holding your breath, trying to fight off your instinct to breathe..." Lydia said, looking at Stiles to continue for her.

"You said it was all because you had some hope that you'd survive. When I was your age I didn't always believe that holding on just a second longer, could do much... but it does. Allison, you can't give up now! Keep fighting, hold on that second longer, and come back to us... please!" Stiles spoke, as tears went down his face.

"We love you," Lydia spoke, crying as well. Allison heard her parents and gained back just enough strength, to kick Void in the chest sending her body floating upward.

"How will we know if it's her?" Malia questioned.

"If Void has taken over, she'll seem calm waking up," Jack told the coyote.

"What if she screams?" Travis asked.

"Considering the circumstances, if she were to scream... that means, she gave up." The doctor told everybody as sincerely as he could. Allison reached the top of the water and inhaled as much oxygen as she could. Everybody in the room heard gasps of breath as she turned over, falling to the floor. The girl held her palms out on the cold tiles as she coughed and threw up a lot of water.

She was confused about how she lasted so long without breathing, but then it hit her, it was just a trick to get her to stop trying and she almost gave in. Noah was the first to walk next to her. He bent down and pulled her hair back as she was trying to catch her breath.

"Allison?" He questioned. The girl had a mental breakdown. She was crying hysterically and yelled through her sobs. Sal stood up quickly and pressed herself against the wall as she tried to speak.

"I-I-I killed all- and I created- and the oni- oh my God, what have I done!" She yelled, barely making sense. Stiles quickly wrapped his arms around her, knowing how she felt.

"You didn't do anything." He reassured her.

"I killed all of those... people" Allison sobbed. Her dad kissed the top of her head and if it was possible, pulled her closer to him.

"You can't blame yourself, you weren't always in control."

"But I saw it, I saw everything..."

"It made you do it, Allison, you didn't have a choice." Tara stepped in.

"You weakened the nogitsune. If Void were to possess you now, it would be known. From what I've gathered, the second game should be the easiest." Jack explained. At least now they knew when Allison was herself.

"I do have to warn you though when you make it to the third stage, and you will, Void will be at its strongest. It'll be the hardest game to win." The doctor continued. Everyone nodded in silence and began to walk out. Lydia had her arm wrapped over Allison's shoulders as they walked to their cars.

"What now?" Dwyer asked.

"We go home, take off tomorrow, and tell each other everything," Scott answered and everybody agreed. Stiles and Lydia wanted Allison in their car, even though she wanted to be with her pack. Malia offered to drive and Scott rode shotgun. The teen sat in the middle of her parents in the back seat.

"I'm sorry." Allison blurted out.

"For what?" Malia asked.

"For almost giving up, I didn't want to hold on that second longer." She admitted.

"But you did and that's all that matters," Lydia said, kissing her head.

"Thanks for pulling me back," Allison said, looking between her parents and letting a yawn escape her.

"Considering we're not speeding home, you have time for a nap." Scott tried. He felt bad for her.

"I'm scared to fall asleep." She spoke, barely above a whisper. Stiles looked down at his daughter, he was the only one that heard her. He wrapped his arm around the girl, pulling Allison closer to him. She felt much safer than before and started to close her eyes. When Stiles saw she fell asleep, he placed a kiss on the top of her head.
