An Unsteady Practice...
"Did they pick up?" Noah asked eagerly.
"No, still no answer. You think they're okay?" Tara asked as they walked outside, waiting for practice to start.
"Yea, they have to be." The dark-haired boy reassured her. The blonde took a seat on the bench closest to the field. It was the same bench that the other players sat on, but Scott always allowed it. The coach turned to her.
"Where's Odekah?"
"He's with Allison. They both haven't answered for a while." Tara said. Scott was silent and then blew his whistle.
"Dwyer, I want you on the long stick today. We're gonna do one on one, from the top. Let's go!" Nick Dwyer is the captain of the team and by far the best player. Tara has always been curious about the boy, he had a specific scent to him and she only ever had four conversations with him. He was Katelynn's boyfriend and they practically ruled the school. Nick ran over, grabbing the long stick and defending his position.
Each player couldn't get passed, it was impossible. Noah was up and he charged at the captain, getting harshly put to the ground. Tara and Scott both cringed at the sound of the impact. Noah got up angrily and walked in front of the other person, ready to go again. His dad didn't mind. He thought of it as determination, but Tara knew exactly what it was.
"Scott, get him off the field!" Tara shouted, knowing his eyes were about to turn and he could seriously hurt someone. The coach snapped his head to the side, confused.
"You need to get him off of that field, right now!" She repeated. Scott saw his son running towards Dwyer, the two collided and fell down, crouching in front of each other.
"Dude, tone it down, you're starting to shift," Nick whispered to the boy, who was obviously mad.
"What?" Noah questioned.
"Keep your head down, you're not in control, who do you have to help you? Are they here?" The captain asked. The dark-haired boy shook his head and pointed at Tara. That was enough for the blonde to come running over.
"Shit dude, you're all over the place. Remember what I said about control." The girl said calmly.
"Yea, I don't exactly have that right now." He grunted and Nick looked at Tara,
"Help me get him into the locker room." She nodded her head and helped him up, while he kept his head down. Scott ran over asking if he was okay.
"He's fine but needs to cool off. We'll be back." Tara told his father. He just gave a simple okay and hesitantly went back to coaching.
"Turn the showers on and make it cold," Dwyer said. Tara quickly followed, she knew exactly what they were gonna do. She ran back, taking a hold of his forearm, while Nick grabbed the other. The two pushed him into the water and he started to roar from anger.
"You have to think man! Think of your anchor. What keeps you human?" The team captain said, loud enough to hear over the water.
"I'm trying!" Noah grunted, trying to turn back human. He took deep breaths, but something wasn't letting him change back. He tried getting out of the teenager's grasp, but they only pushed the boy back harder. Nick now revealed his true eye color. It was a vibrant blue.
Tara's yellow eyes glowed when Noah couldn't stop. The blonde had to roar in his face. Noah dropped down, shifting back into a human. He didn't know what to say and all three teenagers were soaked from the water. Dwyer turned it off and lent the boy a hand.
"You're a werewolf? Why are your eyes blue?" McCall questioned.
"It means he took an innocent life," Tara stated coldly. Nick looked down, clearly not proud of previous events. The teenagers took a seat on the floor and rested against the lockers.
"It was a while back and I was being chased by a group of hunters. I usually always fought back, but I never killed or wanted to kill anyone! They were chasing me, so I grabbed this big rock and threw it. It didn't hit anyone, but one of the hunters tripped over the rock and I didn't know, but there was a bear trap. When he fell, his body went into the metal. The other hunters just blamed me and didn't try to help the guy who was barely alive. They left and when I went back to try and help, he was suffering, and asked me to make it stop." The captain explained.
"That sounds more like self-defense, at least he didn't suffer." Noah tried to comfort the other werewolf.
"It doesn't matter." He said softly.
"You still feel guilty." Tara summed up. They were silent for at least a minute, just comprehending everything.
"So you're a panther?" Dwyer commented looking at Tara.
"Pretty much." She laughed, getting up while the two boys followed her out of the door. A girl quickly turned around smiling,
"Hey, Noah!" She exclaimed. The boy's demeanor changed, completely.
"Hey, Cassidy! How long have you been standing there?" He asked.
"When I saw you walk off the field, I stayed here for a while. You okay?" She asked.
"Yea, yea. I'm totally fine!"
"Okay, just wanted to make sure. Hopefully, I'll see you soon!" She gave him a kiss on the cheek and walked away. He was stuck staring at her, leaving Tara and Nick very confused.
