The night of the dance...
Today is Saturday, and that means tonight's the dance. And honestly, I'm freaking out.
Why?
Because it's not only been 2 days since I broke up with Neil, but also because I'm going to his and Deepa's house to get ready for tonight!
I was considering not going at first since I didn't want to screw things up more than I already did, but my mom told me that not going tonight would make things more awkward than they already are between us. And trust me when I say our interactions have been stiff as a celery stick.
But she's right. I want to have fun tonight with my friends, and nothing is going to stop me. And I really want to work things out with him. Neil's my closest guy friend, and I don't want our friendship to sour.
And besides,
I ain't no chicken.

I put my makeup, skincare, styling products, and my contacts in a bag along with my phone and clutch. Finally, I grab my dress on the bed before walking back downstairs from my room.
After getting downstairs, I go to my shoe closet to grab my champagne glitter block heels. After that, my mom goes to the key table to grab her keys.
"Polama (are you ready to go)?" My mom asks me as I walk to the garage.
"Pola (I'm ready)," I tell her as I put on some sandals. We get into her brand new Tesla Model X, and she drives me to Deepa's house. She lives 2 streets down, so we arrive at her house pretty quickly. Deepa is standing outside her house with Kat, staring at our car as we drive down her street.
"Hi, Charita Aunty!" Deepa waves as I get out of the car. My mom waves back as I go to her front porch to take off my shoes.
"Kanna, make sure to not lose anything. And stay safe!" Amma advises as I nod my head jokingly. She tells me that all the time, so I'm pretty used to it by now.
"Don't worry, Aunty. You have my stamp of approval," Deepa assures her as my mom starts her engine.
"Mine, too. And don't worry, I'll set her up with someone new!" Kat jokes as I roll my eyes and my Mom laughs.
"I trust you two. Bye, kanna. Have fun!" She bids farewell as she goes back down the street.

We enter her house, where she takes us to the kitchen. Deepa's house is so open-spaced, with large windows all around us and a direct view of her giant backyard.
Deepa's parents are out at a work party, so she and Neil are home alone right now.
Yay. Home alone. With my friends... and my ex.
Ugh.
"Hey Dee, where's your brother?" I ask her cautiously as I look everywhere around me. I'm not scared, but I don't know what I'll do if I see him. So, I'll try to keep my distance if anything happens.
"Oh, he's just moping around doing his homework. He has a huge workload," she explains as I exhale in relief. Whew, that was close.
"Dang, nice makeup guys!" I admire them as I check out their looks. Deepa's hair is curled perfectly, and her eyes are adorned with champagne eyeshadow and black liner. It makes her dark eyes pop like crazy. The light blush on her cheeks and her pink lips adds a glowy accent.
