6 hours later...
All the events are now done, so now all the competitors are seated in the main room for the closing ceremony. There's at least 500 people here right now, so all of us just tried and sat in the front as much as possible.
Vinnie and I's event went pretty great, actually. Our event was classified into Economics, which is honestly the hardest cluster our PIs can be in. Vinnie and I drilled our brains during the 10 minute prep time, and we were prepared to the max.
And guess what? I didn't squash the judge's hand at all. So that was already off to a great start.
The judge seemed to really like us, and he seemed pretty into the entire thing. In our role play, the judge was the president of a company and we were the potential candidates for director of HR. Both of us made sure to follow our plan as much as possible, but we still tried to add our own spin to it.
We're pretty confident about our event but also kinda cautious. The same thing happened last year, where we were super confident yet we didn't get it in the end. As a result, we are staying as openminded as we possibly can.
"Hey, are you ready to see if you made it or not?" Vi and Jacob comes to us (Vinnie and I) and sits down.
"Yup, we're ready. Are you guys ready?" Vinnie asks them the same question and Jacob gives a thumbs up before saying, "Yeah, for some reason our event was freakishly easy".
Vi and Jacob's event was classified into Communication Skills, which is the easiest PI cluster. From the beaming expressions they had when they were done, I think they nailed it.
"That's great! But you know, no matter what the result is, today was the most fun day we've had in a while. So let's just focus on that," I encourage them and they smile big, Vi's perfectly aligned (braces in the past) and Jacob's braced teeth shining in the light.
"Look! They're about to start!" Vinnie points to the front podium, where our District President May is starting to speak.
Right before announcing the winners, District 7 was having their annual officer elections. This year, 2 people from our school are running. Eileen, our DECA president, and Praveen, our VP of Hospitality, is running this year. And when I said we were loud, we were LOUD.
Now, the main event is about to start.
"Now, we are going to announce the district winners! If you are announced as a district winner, that means you have advanced to the SCDC (State Career Development Conference) in February that's located in San Antonio. Now, sit tight because I have the results right here!" she picks up this giant envelop and slowly opens it, the tearing of paper blaring through the microphone.
"To start, we have the Accounting Applications Series!" she goes in alphabetical order and 3 people from our school qualify in that event.
"Our next is Apparel and Accessories Marketing! Our first qualifier is Lola Andrews from Colleyville High School!" a person starts going up there to get their medal from the middle of the seats.
5 names later, some familiar names are called.
"Next, we have Katerina Griffin from Royalwood High School!" May announces and our school section cheers like crazy.
"YEAH, KAT! LET'S GO," Vinnie screams as Kat walks to the podium and gets her medal. She then moves to the photo booth.
"Also from Royalwood High School, we have Deepa Grover!" I hear Deepa screaming as Neil hugs her and shakes her for a second. She quickly runs to get her medal and takes a photo with Kat, their faces glowing.
"Yayyyyy, good job!" We get out of our seats and run up to them.
"Thanks, you guys are so sweet! Now go back to your seats before you get in trouble," Deepa scolds me in a joking manner, so we all go back to where we were.
