The next day...

Today wasn't as terrible as I thought. I had a test in AP Chem, but I think I did pretty well. And it's even better because I don't have that much homework for the weekend. I'm pretty sure that I can finish up all my homework before I go shopping as long as I don't get distracted.

But you know, I get distracted pretty easily. No joke, I'm drawn to anything like a moth to a flame.

Luckily for me, Appa is already out there waiting for me at the entrance. I quickly make my way to the car, and we start making our way back home.

"Appa, can I go out with my friends today?" I ask for permission as the traffic light turns red.

"Do you have any homework?"

"A little. I can finish it in an hour. Deepa is picking me up at 6:30," I clarify to him as he nods his head.

"Sari (ok), time irukku (there's time). Make sure you finish up half of your homework before you go," he tells me as he starts the car.

"Yeah, I can do that," I reassure him as we leave the school and enter the main road.

---

We end up reaching home by 4:30, so that gives me enough time to finish up the rest of my homework. I get out of the car, sprint to the garage door, take off my shoes, and bolt upstairs. I speed through my remaining homework and finish with 30 minutes to spare. After that, I put it back into my binder and go back downstairs to get a light snack.

I decide to stay in my current outfit, which is my "Class of 2021" shirt and a pair of black leggings. I'm just going to take my letterman jacket with me in case it starts to get cold. When it comes to Texas weather, you never know what to expect.

"Amma, I'm going dress shopping with everyone," I explain to my mom as I go to get my wallet from the key table.

"Homework irukka (Do you have homework)?" She asks me as I go to the couch to turn on the TV.

"Mudichiten (I finished)," I reply as I fall on the sofa to watch some Kickin'It.

"Tweet, how many times are you going that?" she wonders in disbelief as I rewatch my show. I  like to rewatch old shows whenever I'm bored, and Kickin'It is one of the first shows I've ever watched.

Theriyille (I don't know), Amma," I joke back as the doorbell rings. I get up off the sofa and open the door to see Deepa and Kat standing there.

"Hello, sunshine," Deepa exaggerates as I open the door. My mom follows right behind to see who came to the door.

"Hi, Deepa, Hi, Kat!" Amma beams as she comes to the door, and they both smile and wave back.

"Hi, aunty!" Kat greets back politely. Kat's been around us so much that she now calls everyone "aunty" and "uncle". Sure, she used to think it was a little odd, but she got accustomed to it really fast. She's such an open-minded person.

"Aunty, is it fine if I drop Tia back at 9:30?" Deepa asks my mom for permission.

"You can drop her back at any time before 10," she suggests as she turns her head to me.

"You know the rules, Tia. You can buy anything as long as it's not above mid-thigh. And make sure you send me a picture of your dress," she reminds as I nod.

"Don't worry Ma, I won't go behind your back," I assure as she gives me a kiss on the cheek and says bye. I run to go wear my shoes, kiss my mom back, and go to the car with Deepa and Kat.

"Dude, when are you going to get your own car?" Deepa exasperates as we step into her Maserati and put on our seatbelts. "Don't worry, my parents told me that I might get one this year for Christmas if I get As on my report card this semester."
