"Mel?"
I turned my head slowly, my eyes settling on none other than Ponyboy Curtis.
"Mel... I'm sorry... I really am." He mumbled, looking down at me when sad eyes.
"I know, Pony. But before you yell at me, just hear me out. She's using you. You do all these things for her, do you ever get anything back, even a thank you? I get it, you have a crush on Cherry Valance. She's like the prettiest girl at Tulsa High. She acts all nice to you, but watch her in the hallways with me, she's horrible." A few tears had escaped my eyes. Pony pulled me into his arms. He nuzzled his face in my hair.
"I'm sorry, so sorry. I'll try, I promise I will." I smiled into his neck and pulled away slightly to wipe my eyes.
"I just don't want to see my best friend get hurt." I said to him.
"And I don't want to see my best friend cry."
I laughed and we made our way back to the Curtis home.

It was around 10 pm when we arrived back. The whole gang was over and, of course, Two Bit was watching Mickey. Dally and Johnny were whispering about something on the couch, Soda and Steve were playing cards and arm wrestling in the dining room, and Darry was reading the paper.
"There you guys are." Darry said, setting his paper down and walking towards us. "You good?"
Pony looked at me and I nodded. "Yeah."
"You're not running off like that again." Steve grunted.
I narrowed my eyes at him. "Since when do you control me?"
"Steve just shut up and leave her alone." Dally interjected from the couch. "She's fifteen, carries a blade, and she has Two Bit. Get off her back."
I smiled gratefully at Dally, he gave me a half smile back in return.
"So. Is everyone staying over or are you kicking us out, Dare?" Two Bit asked, not taking his eyes off the TV.
"It's Saturday tomorrow, why not stay over?" Darry replied taking his seat back and grabbing the paper.
"Come on, Sodapop, Whaddya got?" Steve yelled at Soda as Steve was slowly winning the arm wrestle.
Soda managed at the last moment to bang Steve's hand on the table. Everyone cheered for Soda as Steve angrily ripped out five dollars and gave it Soda, who waved it gleefully in the air.
"Alright greasers, bed time! Mel; couch. Two Bit; other couch. Johnny and Dally; pull out Mattress. Steve; the chair. Good? Good."
I snuck into Pony's room and stole a pair of his sweatpants and t-shirt. I smirked and ran to the bathroom.
I walked out, the clothes a bit to big, my hair tied back. Pony stood right around the corner with his hands on his hips and an eyebrow cocked. I winked at him then ran to the living room.
"Hey, Two?" I whispered.
"What's up, Melody?" I heard him smile smugly. I hated it when he called me that.
"Nevermind, Keith, love you, goodnight." I heard Dally snort and turn over.
And soon, everything was black.
