When I arrived at the Curtis home, I was calmed down significantly. I walked right in, not bothering to knock. As usual Two was in front of the TV watching Mickey, Pony was doing homework, Dally and Johnny were gone, and Soda, Darry, and Steve were at work.
"Hey Two, hey Pony." I greeted.
Pony looked up from his homework and smiled at me, his ears turning pink. His ears only turn pink when he's embarrassed...
"So Mel, heard about that little fight you got into today. What was that about?"
I began picking at my nails, a nervous habit. "Uh, it was nothing." And with that I bolted to the kitchen.
I heard Ponyboy say something but I couldn't make it out. I crept closer to the wall and I could hear clearly now.
"I don't know what it was about, I just know she was in a shouting match or something stupid like that." Two Bit explained.
Stupid Cherry Valance. It was her doing. Even if Pony found out she started it, he probably would blame me anyway. I clenched my fists and got myself a glass of water.
I felt a presence behind and made eye contact with lush, green eyes.
"Hey Mo." I smiled at his nickname for me.
"Hey Horse." I laughed and he gave my shoulder a small punch.
"You know I hate that name."
"That why I used it!" I laughed harder and he broke a smile.
"You wanna make some popcorn?" He asked.
"With ice cream!" I giggled and he shook his head.
"I almost forgot!"
It was tradition. We always had ice cream with our popcorn. For some reason, ever since I dropped my popcorn in Pony's ice cream five years ago, we've always eaten it. Just not in the same bowl. Because that was disgusting.
We were putting our finishing touches on our ice cream when Pony thought it would be a fun idea to spray whipped cream at me.
"Oh hell no!" I laughed and grabbed my can of whipped cream and sprayed it in his hair.
"This is war."
Five minutes later, we were covered in whip cream from head to toe. We were both in tears we were laughing so hard. I wet a cloth and began wiping the cream from his face.
"Thanks." He said softly. We were only inches apart. I could see just a small amount of ice cream left on his pink lips. He slowly leaned in to me. Just as our lips were about to touch, the door slammed shut and Darry walked in to the kitchen.
We pulled apart so quickly we ended up bumping heads.
"Ow." We said in unison. I laughed nervously.
"You got a little something on your face." Darry said as he laughed at himself.
"Thanks for the information." I sarcastically bit back.
"Anytime little miss." I stuck my tongue out him and he muttered a real mature, Mel.
As I was cleaning myself up in the bathroom, the only thing I could think of was how Ponyboy wanted to kiss me.
