| Pony's POV |
As the days went on, she slowly became weaker and paler. She hated it when people had to do things for her, but she couldn't do some of them anymore.
Her eyes became a gray color, and slowly, her hair fell out. It hurt me to see her like this, but I treated her no different. I'd hold her close at night, squeeze her hand, kiss her unexpectedly, because I knew in a few months, I wouldn't be able to.
It affected the gang too. Dally didn't drink as much, but smoked way more. Johnny looked mentally beaten, Soda and Darry were always quite, Steve stopped being mean to everyone (thankfully), and Two Bit, he was the worst. His hair wasn't slicked, he had dark circles under his eyes, he was a mess.
"I only had two years with her Pony. Two years ain't gonna be long enough. I'm gonna miss her so much." He started crying and he pulled me in for a hug.
"I wish we could do something." I managed through the tears.
"Me too kid, I'd give my soul to the devil if it meant saving her."
That was the moment I realized how much Two Bit loved Melody. He would give up anything just have her live. I would too.
"I don't wanna live without her." I sobbed. "She's my best friend."
"She's my best friend too." He said sadly.
We sat there for a while, just thinking.
"I can't live without her, Ponyboy." Two Bit sadly said.
"Two Bit you ain't thinking...?"
He looked at me with no reply. He sadness I was feeling deepened and I got up to look for Mel.
