A Ride Home {COMPLETED}

Chapter 1

It was two o'clock in the afternoon when it happened. I was just walking home from the library, minding my own business, when I heard a car engine coming closer. I slowly began to speed up before I broke out into a sprint.

But as I was turning the corner I felt a large hand grab my shirt and yanked me back.

"Hey, where do you think you're going, grease?"

"The circus." I said, my voice dripping with sarcasm. "Home, Ape Face."

This was Mr. Super Soc Randy. Two Bit had told me about him but I already knew. He was Bob Sheldon's best friend, the Soc Johnny had killed a few months ago with Ponyboy.

"Michael! Pin her down!" Randy yelled and I immediately began fighting back.

"Leave me alone!" I screamed as I punched one in the face. I grabbed my knife from my back pocket and flicked it open.

"Aw she's got a blade. How cute." Said a smaller, shorter one.

I tried not to show how scared I really was on my face, but I'm pretty sure you could hear my heart a mile away.

"Get her down." Randy commanded.

I screamed as a big one pulled me to the ground. My body flailed but it was no use. The Socs pulled my blade from my hand and slowly began to stick my neck.

Suddenly all the weight on me was gone and I saw three guys jump over me. I was yanked up to my feet and spun around abruptly by, of course, Darry.

"Melody Marie Matthews I told you not to go out alone and I told you to bring a blade and I-" he rambled but I cut him off.

"Firstly, it's Mel. Secondly, I needed a new book. And thirdly, I did have a blade, but they took it from me." I frowned and looked around. I saw my blade sticking out from around the bushes. I picked it up and put it in my pocket.

"Mel!"

I whipped around only to be bear hugged by my older brother.

"Hey Two Bit." I laughed nervously.

"Did you have your blade?" He asked, looking me seriously in the eye.

I pulled it out from my back pocket and waved it in front of his face.

"Ok, I'm not mad. Damn socs need to stay on their side of town." Two Bit said angrily. I nodded.

"Hey little miss what do you think was gonna happen when you were walking alone, huh? Same thing happened to Ponyboy over here a few months-" Steve started but I wasn't taking his shit.

"Yeah I know Steve. I was there. But I have a blade and it happened to be that there were five of them and one of me. So get off my back!" I yelled in his face.

I couldn't stand him. Everything about him annoyed me.

"You okay, Kid?" Dallas asked, making his way over to us.

"Yeah I'm fine. Does someone have a cloth? My neck is bleeding." I muttered.

"We'll get one when we get back, but we should get heading home. Y'all wanna come over?" Darry asked us.

Two Bit looked at me and I nodded along with Steve and Dally.

"Alright, come kids." Darry said as he pulled me in the middle of him and Two Bit.

It was only about a five minute walk from where we were to the Curtis home. Darry was the first in followed by me. As soon as Darry announced we were back Ponyboy, Johnny, and Soda jumped up from their spots on the couch.

"You ok, Mel? Need anything?" Johnny asked me.

"Nah I'm ok." I replied. "Thanks though."

"Here's that cloth, Mel." Darry said, handing me a dark wash cloth. I nodded a thanks and plopped down on the couch.

"So what happened?" Ponyboy asked.

"Yeah, Mel. Don't expect to come here without telling us the details." Soda snickered.

I rolled my eyes and explained my story to them. Pony snickered when I mentioned Darry's little ramble. Darry sent him a glare and continued to flex or whatever he was doing.

"Damn socs need to stay on their side of town. Then we'll have no problems." Steve grumbled.

"You're just upset over your oversize nose, Steve." Two Bit snapped at him.

Everyone erupted in laughter and Steve tackled Two and they wrestled on the ground.

"Alright you hooligans, enough." Darry said in between snorts and laughter.

"Who wants cake?" Soda yelled.

And let me tell you, that shut everyone in that room right up.

Sorry that ended so crappily, but I really didn't know how to stop that lol. I hope you guys are liking it. Things will move more fluidly it's just starting out the story right now.

I really have nothing more to say except that I hope to have a new chapter up everyday. Maybe even two a day if it's one of those days.
