Chapter 15

The next month was bliss. Ponyboy and I were going strong and Two Bit had forbid me from going home to our drunken mother.

School had just let out for the weekend and I was waiting for Ponyboy. A group a Socs walked by and cat called me. I rolled my eyes and looked for Pony.

As I fingered my switch in my pocket I heard a whispered boo and fingers were dug into my side. I screamed and turned to find Ponyboy doubling over in laughter.

"I hate you." I grumbled and grabbed his hand.

"I love you too, baby." He smiled a huge, toothy smile.

I felt my heart flutter when he said that to me. He called me "babe" or "doll" a lot, but baby was adorable. I blushed just thinking about it.

"So what are you doing tomorrow?" He asked, squeezing my hand.

"Probably just hanging at your house until one o'clock, then I have my yearly doctors appointment." He groaned.

"I was hoping we could go to the two o'clock show at the movie house."

My face fell.

"Maybe we could go Sunday?" I suggested and his face lit up.

"You're a genius, baby!" He kissed my cheek and pulled me into the house.

Once again my checks were as red as tomatoes.

We walked into the kitchen to get a snack and something to drink. I grabbed two water bottles from the fridge and the ice cream from the freezer while Pony began popping the popcorn. We had a race to see who could scoop out 5 scoops and put the chocolate and cream on the fastest. I ended up winning.

We took our food and plopped in front of the TV together for the rest of the night.

The next day I showered and by the time twelve-thirty came around, I was ready to go the doctor. Two Bit drove me in his car (unfortunately) and we arrived earlier than usual.

We checked in and sat in the waiting room. I picked up a magazine and began reading when I felt Two hit me on the head with his magazine.

"Excuse me?" I bopped him back and soon it was a full on war.

"Ms. Melody Matthews?" A short, chubby nurse said, not even looking up.

Two and I stood up and followed the nurse into the room.

"Hello, Melody. I'm Doctor Greene. Today I'm just going to be taking a few x-Rays and doing just a regular check up. Sound good?"

I nodded and made my way into the room to get my x-Rays done. An hour and a half later, my check up was done and we were waiting for the doctor to show us the x-Rays.

The door opened and the doctor and the nurse walked in.

"Melody, while I examining your x-Rays, I couldn't help but notice a disturbance. Do you smoke?"

"No, but all of my friends do." I replied.

"On your x-Ray, we can see a patch of bacteria on your lungs."

"What kind of bacteria?" Two Bit asked.

"Cancer bacteria."

Tomorrow I'll have to update early because I'll be gone for the WHOLE DAMN WEEKEND WITH NO WIFI PRAY FOR ME.
