| Pony's POV |
After Two Bit and Mel left, Johnny and I decided to go for a walk.
"What's on your mind, Pony?" Johnny asked me, taking a drag of his cigarette.
I lit up one myself and shrugged. "I don't know, girls."
Johnny shoved his hands in his pockets and looked to the ground. "Which ones?"
I stared him. "You know very well which ones."
His ears turned pink from embarrassment and he smiled a bit. "One Soc and one greaser. Great job Ponyboy."
I whipped around angrily. "Yeah? And so what? You gotta a problem that I'm in love with my best friend and a soc who will never like me back?! I know I'm a fool, Johnnycake.. I know." I took a deep breath to compose myself and Johnny pulled me into a hug.
"I'm sorry, Pony. I didn't mean to get you riled up. I was just tryin' say th-that, you should let Cherry go."
Once he said that, something seemed to click in my head. Then, I did something that very much surprised Johnny.
I nodded and whispered so quietly, that Johnny almost didn't hear it.
"I never loved Cherry. I used her to make Mel jealous to see if she liked me."
Johnny's eyes were wide and then grew even darker.
"Have fun with that."
