Chapter 16

"C-cancer?" I stuttered. I felt like passing out and throwing up. Cancer! I've never smoked a cigarette in my life!

Two Bit didn't move. He stood there, frozen in place. Then he looked at me, his eyes watery.

"You must be mistaken." He barely whispered.

"I'm sorry, Sir. I ran multiple tests and I came up with the same result each time." The doctor said slowly.

"Is there anything we can do?" I chocked out.

"I'm sorry, but it has been in your body for to long and is spreading quicker than ever. I predict two months, maybe more, maybe less."

I felt my stomach drop to the floor and I sobbed. Two Bit grabbed me and pulled me into his chest.

"I'm sorry." The doctor said once more, and he and the nurse were gone.

"Mel, I'm so sorry." Two Bit whispered in my ear.

"I don't even smoke!" I moaned, burying my face in his chest. "I don't wanna die! I'm only fifteen! I don't wanna die!"

And everything went black.

It was about three o'clock when I heard the door open and close and I saw Two Bit carrying a sleeping Mel.

"Hey Two- are you crying?" Soda asked from the living room.

Two Bit couldn't even talk. He pulled out an x-Ray and threw it to the ground, along with Mel and himself. He pulled his sister into his arms and cried.

Soda grabbed the pictures and gasped.

"What's wrong, Soda?" I asked walking towards him.

I felt my stomach drop to the floor.

"That's not... What I think it is, is it?" I chocked.

"Cancer." Soda mumbled.

Mel wasn't asleep. She was overwhelmed and fainted. My head was spinning. Two months! Two months for her to live the rest of her life before its ripped from her. I finally get her, and I'll lose her again.

Darry, Dally, Johnny, and Steve all walked in and all had the same look of confusion. By now, Soda was teary eyed and I was crying. Soda handed Darry the picture and paper and pulled me into him.

Our happiness was being ripped away from us again. And I didn't know if I could handle it again.

Ugh but I'm so tired and I have a four hour rehearsal tomorrow and then I'm leaving :'(

And I'm sorry I gave Mel cancer.

I feel kinda bad.

But I didn't want it to be a cliche love story. So yeah.
