FENRIS

My head feels like it's being hammered on with full force when I blink open my eyes only to recoil back at the harsh lighting. A growl slips from my throat and immediately, I feel a movement around me. After a few seconds, I feel the lights being dimmed to my comfort and I open my eyes to find myself in the infirmary of Mystic Shadow.

Then as if it's a movie, all the events come flooding into my mind and recall Sierra being in direct danger by the witch.

"Where's Sierra?" I voice my concern immediately, ignoring my scratchy throat, to the two people in my infirmary room. Nora looks tearful whereas Alpha Zac looks tense, rigid even. His hands are fisted and there are dark circles beneath his eyes, his skin tone paler than usual. Surely, she wouldn't leave me here alone to heal. No, she wouldn't, not after she threw herself in front of me to fight off the witch.

"I am sorry," he whispers, distracting me. I look at him questioningly before focusing on his emotions. Guilt is the prime emotion wafting off from him. My mind quickly plays different mate-threatening events and I lose my control for a moment. I look at Nora who's now shedding tears silently but still refraining from meeting my eyes.

Restraining myself, I ask, "Please tell me, what happened, where's she?"

"Xavier took her." Alpha Zac says and that fast the thin thread holding my control snaps.

"What do you mean by that?" I roar and immediately feel my neck muscles stretch and ache.

"Calm down, please. I'll tell you everything," Nora tries to placate me, standing up now and walking closer to my bedside. I nod, reluctantly, settling in the bed realising that I had moved out of it in my rage.

"Your mother's knife was made with her essence that's why it was able to help you kill the witch. Had I known about it before I would have told you and sped the process of seeking the witch out," she mutters, her surprise evident in her voice.

"Only a witch can kill another witch!" I exclaim, not at all understanding her words. I want to go on a search for my mate.

"Yes. But you are part witch yourself. Plus, you had Eva's knife with you. She made two knives once. It may have been the time when she was carrying the second babe, your sister. She gave me one. She made me promise her that I would be the one to give it to you and I did but I never knew that it would be for killing the witch," she explains. I faintly recall my mother being a seer. I nod in understanding.

Okay. Now I know that the witch is dead. That's good but what about my mate and how did Xavier reach there?

"What happened after I lost consciousness?" I direct this question to Alpha Zac as he was there when it all happened and not Nora.

"When the witch stabbed you, you lost consciousness. Sierra panicked and in the fit of rage, attacked the witch in her wolf form. She ripped the witch's head off her body and we burnt it because we didn't know how to ensure that she doesn't resurrect herself. Tina soothed your mate and requested her to move over your body. Sierra was guarding you against any danger. After she moved back, I picked you up and Tina followed me to treat you. You were suffering from the burns and those stab injuries. Sierra was alone for a few minutes in the garden, that's when Xavier emerged.

"My guess is that Xavier was lying in wait and that's why the witch appeared to be distracted maybe because she was working on keeping Xavier hidden. Zion tried to fight off the rogue but was instead beaten to near-death. He failed to protect her and then Xavier fled off with your mate."

By the time, Alpha Zac finishes informing me about my mate's kidnapping, I play it out in my mind in graphic detail and know exactly how scared she must be at the moment. I also recall the witch being distracted. It seemed too easy to catch her off-guard and it's now that I understand the reason behind it. That bastard was lying in wait to kidnap my mate. I am going to fucking kill him! In my rage-filled mind and my imagination feeding the anger, I barely register Zion's near-death experience.
