Chapter 9

Annabeth's POV

"I'll ask you one more time. What happened?" The police woman's gentle voice was soothing. But I wanted Percy.

"Where's Percy?"

"He's alright. They're taking care of him."

"Gabe. He tried to kill me. Percy saved me. H-he acted as a human shield," I described the terrible scene. My body shook. I needed to see him, to make sure he was okay.

Percy's POV

I woke up in a hospital room. My back hurt, but I didn't feel the liquidy blood. Annabeth. Did he get her?

"You're up," a nurse noticed. She helped me into a sitting position.

"Where is she?" I asked.

"The girl you protected? She's in the room next to you. Unharmed, but in shock. Keeps asking for you."

"Can I see her?"

"I'll have to ask the policewoman with her, but I'll try," she said, giving me a weak smile. "You must be one awesome boyfriend."

They rolled her in. Her eyes were red, but seemed to lift when she saw me.

"Percy?" She whispered, touching my face. I smiled, grabbing her hand. "I'm so sorry." She broke into tears. The nurses left, and pulled her in for a kiss. They set her bed right next to mine.

"I'm fine, see? We're fine," I shushed her.

"I couldn't bear it, I thought you would die and I noticed that I really, really loved you." She broke into tears again.

"I love you too. I wouldn't risk my life for anyone. I would die without you, anyways."

"I put you here..."

"No, Gabe put me here."

"Excuse me, but your parents would like to see you two now," the nurse called.

My mom and Annabeth's dad walked in. They pulled us in for hugs. "Percy... I had no idea." My mom shed silent tears.

"When am I getting out?"

"In about a week. Annabeth can leave tomorrow. They already pulled the glass out of your back, and Gabe was sent to jail for years. We obviously divorced, so he can never hurt us."

"I'm sorry Mom," I muttered.

"What are you sorry for? I should be sorry."

"I... stole a blue cookie from the refrigerator a few years ago." I smirked. She laughed, happy that I was still me.
