Percy's POV

Annabeth sat next to me, laughing her head off at a joke I made. We were at Thalia's family café with some friends from school. Thalia got her mom to make special cookies for us.

"We hate Ms. Dodds," Connor said.

"That's why we glued her glasses to her desk." Travis added.

"But gluing her shoes down was the hardest."

"You idiots did all of that because she gave you F's in participation and discipline?" Thalia asked, slowly laughing. Connor and Travis shrugged, biting into cookies. The rest of us snickered at their stupidity.

"We're gonna head out," I said, grabbing Annabeth her jacket. She smiled, and we both said goodbye.

The night air was chilly, and Annabeth huddled close to me, resting her head on my shoulder. I put my arm around her shoulders and kissed her cheek. The scars on my back had finally healed, and the bandages were taken off.

"So, Wise Girl, you wanna help me with homework tomorrow?"

Annabeth then whirled around, punched my shoulder, and slowly twisted my wrist as I yelped in pain. It wasn't that painful. Okay, it was painful.

"My first day back to school, and you want me to help you with homework? Really, Seaweed Brain."

While still breathing heavily, I replied, "well, we could hang out together. Mom has an extra shift at the office since she got promoted, and we'll have the house to ourselves."

She let go, smirking at me. I let out a moan, and leaned on the building next to us. Annabeth looked me over with concern.

"Percy, are you okay?" She put a hand on my shoulder. I took the opportunity to grab her a whirl her onto my back.

"Gotcha, Wise Girl."

"Percy, let go!"

We were still laughing when the large dudes approached us.

*JUST TO PISS YOU OFF HAHAHA*

"Can we help you?" Annabeth muttered, holding my hand as the four men approached.

"Yeah, uh, you see, we're missing a friend. I think you two knew him very well. Until you got him arrested."

I gripped Annabeth's hand tighter, and we both thought the same thing.

Run.

We bolted the place quick, running to who knows where. When I turned around, thinking they'd left us alone, I found out I was wrong. The men were chasing as in a black truck, gaining speed and cursing way too loudly.

They eventually caught up, and people jumped out of the truck to persue us on foot. I yelled my heart out, but we were alone, and we were reaching a clearing of woods.

"Get 'em!" Someone yelled, footsteps charged. I prayed silently, hoping we wouldn't get caught.

Boy, was I wrong.

Annabeth and I were still running when she was knocked down. She let out a scream, and blood caked the back of her right leg. They'd shot her.

I couldn't leave her, and they were gaining. I knelt down beside her, as she yelled at me.

"Leave, Percy! Leave me!"

"I am not leaving you. We can make it, Annabeth!"

"Dammit, Percy! Just leave!"

"No," I whispered. "I don't care where we go."

She looked into my eyes. "As long as we're together."
