Annabeth's POV

That boy kept staring at me. I was determined to get all the way up there and back down easily, but his gaze confused me.

No, Annabeth Chase is never confused.

I grabbed the rope with both hands, amd began the journey up. Five, six, seven feet in the air. The higher I went, the better I felt. Those girls were staring at me in awe. So was the boy, Percy.

I rang the bell at the top.

Everyone stared as I made my way down, and jumped when I was a few feet off the ground. I would flip my hair and walk out of here, but my hair was up and I didn't wanna get in trouble. I went and stood in the back. This was the only class I was in the back.

Percy came closer and whispered, "good job".

I smiled and watched him go up and down like me, quick and easy.

?Jeff The Line Break¿

The pain of going home. My dad was on a business trip, and my brothers were at a sleepover. My stepmom wasn't bad, but she drank and smoked... a lot. I don't know how my dad can stand her.

I opened the door to my house. Helen, my stepmom, was asleep on the couch. I rolled my eyes and headed upstairs.

Percy's POV

Gabe would be there. I dreaded going home everyday. More than I dreaded going to school.

Gabe didn't used to be bad. He helped us after my dad left my mom, Sally, and I. But he started drinking, and recently started hitting me. Nothing big, but nothing pleasant.

I ran through the building to my small apartment. Mom was at work, and Gabe was probably with his poker pals. We moved a lot because I got expelled... a lot. And because Gabe was not very welcome everywhere. I opened the door, and threw my backpack on the couch. I sat down next to it, and strangely thought about Annabeth. Her beautiful blonde hair, her smart and intimidating eyes. I was going to her house tomorrow.

*A Dam Line Break*

The next day at school, I sat with Annabeth again. She introduced me to her friends, Thalia, Luke, and Piper. They were all held for lunch detention yesterday, because unlike Annabeth, teachers hated them.

"Nice to meet you, Percy," Piper smiled. She was wearing a maroon sweater and ripped dark blue jeans with black boots. Her hair was a tangled mess, but she didn't seem to care.

"You guys too. Nice to make new friends." I grinned. I sat next to Luke, who sat next to Thalia. Annabeth sat across from me, and Piper sat across from Thalia and Luke. Those two were dating, and I heard Piper liked that soccer player, Jason, at our school. He was actually Thalia's twin brother.

(I know that's not true. Thalia's immortal, & she's 15, but in my book they're all 16.)

"Do you guys wanna come to my Mom's café today?" Thalia asked. Her mom owned a cool café a block from the school.

"Well, I'm tutoring Percy today after school, so we'll meet you afterwards," Annabeth answered for me. I made eye contact with her for a second, and I couldn't do anything but stare. She then looked over at her other friends.

"Cool. We'll see you there. And I know Jason's gonna be there, Piper." Thalia wiggled her eyebrows. She was wearing all black, with a Fall Out Boy tee and black denim. Her black hair had blue highlights in it, and was cut short. She had electric blue eyes, that changed with her mood.

(I recommend Fall Out Boy)

"Shut up, Grace," Piper shot back. Luke laughed at their argument, until his girlfriend punched his shoulder. He had blond hair and blue eyes, looking like some surfer. He had sort-of pointy ears and a clever smile on his lip, like he was always planning.

Annabeth's POV

I was just enjoying my lunch, Stolls. Is that too much to ask? Yep. I was enjoying a nice sandwich, when a bucket of icy water was dumped on me.

"Stolls!!" I screamed, getting up. My gray shirt and black jeans were ruined. My red sneakers were all wet. My hair stuck to my face. The Piper and Percy had their mouths hanging open. Thalia and Luke were trying not to laugh.

"That's what you get, Smarty! You got us in trouble!" The Stolls ran like hell. I would have to get them back later.

I rushed to the locker rooms, and then to the bathroom. I changed into my gym uniform, and threw my old clothes into a bag. I then walked back into the cafeteria. Percy, seeing how wet I was, took off his red sweatshirt and handed it to me.

"Thanks," I muttered.

"No problem."
