Annabeth's POV
It was embarrassing, not being able to swim. I just never learned. No one really taught me.
"Oh... why didn't you tell me?" Percy asked. I looked up at him. My hair was wet, but I had new clothes at least.
"I just... didn't think it was important."
"How is it not important? I know something you don't. I'M ACTUALLY BETTER THAN YOU AT SOMETHING! NOW I CAN TEACH YOU!"
I rolled my eyes, but I was happy to see him take this lightly. "Shut up, Seaweed Brain."
"I'll teach you."
I perked up. "You will?"
"Yeah. What kind of boyfriend would I be if I didn't?"
"Hmm..." I grabbed his hand. "A bad one."
"Oh, and I made the team. As captain."
"Of course you did."
*Line Break. Line Break*
"So... you ready?" Percy said. He was wearing his blue swim trunks.
"Yeah." We were at the pool, in a less crowded section. I was wearing a red bikini, and my hair was pulled up.

We took a break an hour later. I'd gotten the hang of it, but Percy was not the best teacher. He kept playing around and goofing off.
We were in the halls of the pool centre. I was eating some chocolate from the vending machine. The place was not very crowded because it was Wednesday.
"Annabeth," Percy said. He had a worried expression on his face.
"What's wrong?"
"I gotta go. My step dad." He gave me a short kiss, and he ran out the door.
Well.
Percy's POV
I felt like an ass, just leaving Annabeth. I would have to make up an excuse later. My step dad had texted me, saying he would kill me if I wasn't home in five minutes. I couldn't tell Annabeth that he was... er... sort of abusive.
"I'm home!" I yelled as I ran into my apartment. Gabe was waiting for me, sitting in his favorite worn out, maroon chair in the living room. He had a beer bottle in his left hand.
"I know, kid. But you were grounded. You left the house without permission." He got up. I wasn't escaping without getting hurt.
"I'm not grounded. I was with a friend an-"
"I don't care what you were doing!"
He punched my gut, making me bend over and cluch my stomach. He brought my head up, punching my nose. The rest was a bloody mess. He then left me on the ground, drops of blood falling from my face.
"Next time, I don't want to hear you snuck out."
But I didn't sneak out.

"Hey Annabeth," I said over the phone. I was in my tiny bedroom, trying to rest. I still had to go to school tomorrow.
"What the hell happened, Percy?"
"Uh... Gabe caught me. I was supposed to be home right after school, so he got mad when he found out I was at the pool," I half-lied. Annabeth bought it.
"Oh, Okay. I was afraid you'd ditched me for no apparent reason."
I smirked. "Why would I ever want to leave you?"
She giggled. "I gotta go, Percy. My dad just got home and we're about to have dinner. See you tomorrow."
"Yeah, see ya."
