Annabeth's POV
After a month in the hospital, we were let out. My back still held numb pain from the scar that would be there forever.
My dad took me home in his grey minivan. I barely got a word in with Percy, who didn't even speak with my dad.
"Dad, I wanted to see Percy."
Dad took a deep breath. "Annie, I don't think you should be seeing him for a while."
My jaw dropped. "Why? Why can't I see him?!"
"Annabeth, if you hadn't met him, you wouldn't have gotten hurt. I can't risk you're safety."
"Dad, that's so unfair!"
"It's for your own good."
"Percy would never hurt me!"
"But other people could."
"I'm not a little kid anymore, Dad. I can make my own decisions. I turn eighteen in July."
"Well, then you can do what you want."
"You can't just separate us."
"Sorry, Annabeth."

"Goodnight, Annabeth." Dad switched off the lights and left me in bed. I stared up at the ceiling, thinking of Percy.
Someone was throwing rocks at my window. My heart skipped a beat as I crept to my window. Percy was standing below, grinning like a madman. I couldn't help but smile. I opened the window, sticking my head out.
"Really, Seaweed Brain?" I whisper-yelled.
"Your dad hates my guts."
"I know. Wait a minute."
As fast as I could, I threw a shirt and shorts, grabbing my flip flops. I left my hair wild, and used my rope to lower myself down the side of my house. Percy caught me when I got down.
"Thanks," I said, blushing slightly.
"No problem, Wise Girl. I couldn't stay away."
I giggled as we crept out onto the streets of Manhattan. We held hands, walking down the still busy roads still filled with people. It was ten; I planned to be home at midnight.
Percy and I walked into a near 24 hour fast food restaurant, sitting in the back corner with huge burgers, talking away.
"Annabeth?"
"Yeah?" I said, biting into my burger.
"What if.. what if your dad was right?"
"Huh?" I questioned, looking up at his sea-green eyes.
"What if you would be safer without me."
"But I don't wanna be without you, Percy."
"Annabeth, I could be dangerous for you."
I sighed. "Not you too."
"I love you, Annabeth."
Percy's eyes turned misty, as if he were about to cry. Somehow, he didn't. All he did was stand up, grab his jacket, and hand me mine.
"You can't be serious, Percy." My voice started quivering, and I didn't feel hungry all of a sudden.
"I'm sorry, Annabeth."
I lost it. "WHY DOES EVERYONE KEEP APOLOGIZING?!" The cashier at the front desk of the restaurant stared at us peculiarly.
Percy just paid for the food and escorted me out. We walked back to my place in silence. Percy was the first to speak when we got there.
"Goodnight, Annabeth."
I couldn't help it. I leaned over to give him one last kiss, and I took the rope between my hands, pulling myself up to my bedroom window. When I looked back down, I saw Percy beneath the rope, as if ready to catch me if I fell.
He was always looking out for me. Well, he needed to stop.
