Percy's POV

It was a week later, and I still hadn't talked to Annabeth. I had to force myself not to text her, to walk to her house, to call her. I was going to school today, and we had a few classes and lunch together. I walked to school wearing a long sleeved black shirt and jeans. The weather was great today, and students littered the school grounds.

"PERCY JACKSON!"

I turned my head to see Annabeth marching towards me, fists clenched tight.

"Annabeth I-" before I could say another word, she grabbed my arm and judo flipped me. "Ow!"

"Jerk!"

"What was that for?" I didn't know she could do that.

"For ignoring me for a week! My dad forced me to join in on 'family time'! Thanks a lot!"

"Annabeth." My voice dropped to a whisper. "I don't want you getting hurt."

"Really Percy? You think I'm going to get hurt again? Don't you think the Monsters have learned their lesson?"

"I can't take a risk."

"Percy, you don't need to protect me!" She groaned, looking up at the sky. She looked so beautiful just standing there.

"I do need to protect you! I'd die if you got hurt."

"Percy, don't you think you ignoring me is hurting?"

"Way to one-up me, Wise Girl."

"You're such a Seaweed Brain."

"But I'm your Seaweed Brain."

"Percy did you just-"

"Don't judge me."

Annabeth rolled her eyes. "Sure okay. Just promise me you won't do anything like this again."

"Yeah yeah, sure." I put an arm around Annabeth's shoulders, and we walked to first period.

"Percy, I got in!"

"That's great, Annabeth!"

Annabeth wrapped her arms around me, hugging tight. She and I had both gotten into a local college. She had an academic scholarship, and I got in to swim. I was on one of those sport scholarships. She was excited because a scholarship meant a lot to her.

"We can go to college together!"

"Yep, I can't wait."

"I'm just so happy! Getting a scholarship means..."

We talked for hours in my bedroom about our future. We would go to college together, and Annabeth wanted to become an architect. I wanted to be an Olympic swimmer.

"I gotta go, Percy. See you at school tomorrow? Exams start next week and I wanna study before sleeping tonight."

I kissed Annabeth goodnight and walked her to her car. Her father had gotten it for her because she was doing very well in school, and he was sure she'd get a scholarship. He also sort of approved of me. He still didn't like me, though. Even though I've saved his daughter's life before. And gotten her dragged into this.

The next day, prom posters hung up around the school. Prom was right after exams, meaning it was in two weeks. I still hadn't asked Annabeth, and I really needed to. After all we'd been through, we at least deserved prom.

Now all I had to do was think of a way to ask.

"Hey, Wise Girl." I found Annabeth underneath a tree, studying all her textbooks. She kept murmuring to herself and writing notes in a crammed notebook.

"Percy, you need to study. You have an athletic scholarship, but if your exam scores aren't good enough, they could still kick you out."

"I know, I know. I studied last night. I've never studied this hard in my life."

"Percy I have to cram this stuff in before class today. Our first Exam is math."

"Ugh! Exams and SATs?"

"We've already taken the SATs. Now go!"
