Too Soon

CHAPTER 4

ENZO'S POV

Cynthia.

After the incident happened at the canteen and she introduced herself to me, her name kept popping up in my head.

When I went back to my friends after I offered her the paper towels, as usual, Eusaff teased me again and Kevin laughed at us.

She was quite nice and kind of babbly. I guess it was a great idea not to tell her my name.

Hindi naman na kami magkikita kahit nasa isang school naman kami, 'diba?

The three of us were playing a game in PS4 and we were too focused on it.

During vacation, we always play ps4 together but there were times when we get tired of it, the two of them stay in my place and suddenly, we thought of going for night rides and grab a snack in a fast-food restaurant.

Of course, we have our curfew to follow especially me when my parents were at home but Eusaff's mom is not too strict about his son's time when we go out together.

Same as Kevin's dad but sometimes, Kevin choose to go home before his curfew because, for him, Sleep is lifer.

A few minutes of playing, one of us decided to start a conversation but it was a kind of conversation that Eusaff has been telling us since the incident at the canteen.

"Sayang talaga." Eusaff said teasingly through the chat audio of the game. He really can't get over it, can he?

"Oo nga. Sayang! I didn't introduce myself. Sayang, 'di ko kinuha phone number niya. Sayang, 'di ko siya nakausap ng matagal. Sobrang sayang talaga!" I sarcastically said to him as I was shaking my head still playing the game.

"Alam mo pala eh!" Kevin said, teasingly. Lord, help me.

"You could've at least got her phone number!" Eusaff added. Are they stressing out over this topic?

"I just wanted to help her at that time. Akala ko umiiyak yung tao, turned out napuwing lang pala. And, it was embarrassing." I shook my head as I remember the incident.

"Sus! Mga galawan mo, Enzo." He said as they both laughed at me.

We decided to take some rest after a few hours of playing. I turned off the television and arranged my PS4 into its box.

I lay down in my bed and closed my eyes for a few minutes. I heard a knock on the door and suddenly, someone pushed it opened. I was expecting Aling Maria but then,

"Kumain kana?" My mom asked me. She sat down on the bed beside me and started stroking my hair, slowly.

"Hindi pa. Katatapos namin maglaro nila Eu and Kevin." I said as my eyes still closed, relaxing how my mom stroke my hair. I've missed this.

"Sabayan mo na ako kumain." She said. I opened my eyes and looked up at her.

"Where's dad?" I asked and sat up still my eyes focused on my mom.

"He's resting, right now. Maybe later, kakain siya." She smiled then stood up walking to the door. "I'll prepare your dinner." She said, smiling at me sweetly.

I sighed. I didn't want to get out of my bed but for sure, if I didn't get up now and eat my dinner I will certainly open the fridge and grab snacks in the middle of the night

So, I got up and walked towards the kitchen. I saw my dad with mom having dinner already so I joined them sitting down in front of my mom and start eating my dinner in silence.

"How was your first day at the university, Enzo?" Mom started a conversation. I looked at her and smiled lightly.

"It was good. Fun actually." I said and shrugged my shoulders.

Fun talaga ha?

My mom nodded and we continued to eat. As I finished my dinner and filled up my glass of water to drink it, I almost choked on the water I was drinking when my dad said,

"Enzo, you will come with me to our hotel on weekends. Let's get you to familiarize some things there." He told me, still focused on his food. I, on the other hand, drank all the water first and said,

"I have plans with Eusaff and Kevin on weekends, dad." I sighed. It was a lie or maybe it wasn't at all. I honestly don't want yet to get involved with our hotel for now.

I know, sooner or later, I will be taking my dad's position as the CEO of our business but right now, it's too early and my mind is not ready yet for the business that my dad wanted me to focus on.

All these years, he has been telling me about this business stuff but I always refused and told him I wasn't ready. I appreciate that he respected my decision and didn't bring it up ever since that day.

And now, I had no idea what came into his business-minded mind why he brought it up again. He looked at me when he finished his dinner and drink his water then said,

"Mas importante pa ba 'yan kaysa sa business natin?" He asked me. His voice was filled with annoyance and disappointment again.

"No, dad but-" He cut me off and said,

"Pala eh. Then you're coming with me and that's final!" He said. I can still feel his intent gaze on me as I look at my mom then finally I looked at him.

"Why are we even discussing this? Do you think it's too early for it?" I asked him.

Not yet. I still don't want to engage myself with some business stuff.

"Why are you even arguing with me about this, Enzo?" He looked at me, intently and he added,

"I've given you a lot of chances, every time you refused to go to the hotel with me. As soon as possible, dapat alam mo na lahat! Kaya stop throwing away the chance I am giving you!" He slightly raised his voice at me.

I was about to say something but I heard my mom cleared her throat. We looked at each other as she shook her head as if her eyes telling me, "Don't. Just agree with your dad, Enzo."

I sighed and nodded at my dad.

"Fine. In one condition." I looked back at him, seriously. "Hindi ako pupunta doon every weekends. Besides, I still have a lot of years to learn about our business, dad."

He seemed hesitant at first but he agreed with me at the end.

"Okay." He stood up from his seat and patted my shoulder. "I'm going to bed." He said, kissing my mom's forehead. He walked out of the kitchen and went straight upstairs.

My mom has already helped the maids in collecting the dishes to be washed. I stood up and kissed my mom on the cheek saying good night to her.

"It is the best for you, Enzo. Intindihin mo nalang ang dad mo." She smiled at me a little and nodded at her.

I went straight into my room then locked the door. I took off my clothes and put them in a basket. I went straight to the bathroom to take a shower.

Once I was done, I dried myself off, brushed my teeth, and put my clothes on. I lay down in my bed and closed my eyes as I tried to sleep despite the pressure built inside me.
