Callie

The drive home was thick with emotion circulating in the air. "I can't believe we will be home in five minutes Callie."

"I know. It seems crazy. Almost like the last four hours have just flew in. I didn't even speed once!" I was well pleased with myself. To be fair, I did put it on cruise control and only had to brake when some numpty pulled out in front of me.

"I know. The journey home from anywhere always seems quicker than getting to your destination."

Parking the car in the driveway, we looked at the front door as there was someone there, knocking on the door. "Who the hell is that?"

I watched Sarah remove her sunglasses and her face fell into a frown. "Oh, hell no..."

"What?" I looked at Sarah, not sure what was going on.

"It's Emilia."

"As in your ex, Em?" I looked over at the woman standing facing us now.

"Yes. As if this weekend wasn't emotional enough, now I have to deal with her."

I felt myself get defensive. "Do you want to tell her to sling her hook?" I'm not letting this lassie hurt Sarah again, no way.

"No. Maybe this is the universe's way to tell me it's time for my closure."

"I will grab our bags. Do not walk towards her until I am by your side."

I quickly get our bags and we walk towards Emilia and I feel like slapping her across her face, but I knew Sarah would flip at me. "Hey Callie."

"Hello, Gingernut." Well, I have no reason to say pleasantries to this woman. You know what I am like by now, people I don't genuinely like, get nicknames.

"Callie!!" Sarah semi scolded me for speaking to Emilia in that way.

"What? I don't have to play nice. I shall leave you both to it." I left them standing outside on the front yard and went inside.

"Hi Sarah..."

Sarah

"What are you doing here Em?" I can't believe that she is here and although my heart is thumping so hard in my chest, I feel nothing.

"I am here to see you."

"I gathered that. Why?" I'm not exactly thrilled to see her, but at least, the very least I can do is hear her out.

"Well, as you know, I am getting married to Alistair on Saturday." I hoping she isn't about to invite me to their wedding, I would honestly see red.

"Yes, I heard, congratulations." It was almost bittersweet passing that on to her.

"Thanks. I am here...well, I just don't know. I just needed to see you. I've been trying to reach you all weekend."

"I've been away. I've been in Glasgow with Cal and seeing her girlfriend and friends." Why am I even explaining to her why I wasn't here!?

"That's cool..."

God this is super awkward. "Stop making small talk with me Em but thank you for stopping by."

"Uhm..." I could tell she didn't really think this visit through.

"Having you right in front of me finally confirms one thing though."

"What is that?"

"I feel absolutely nothing for you." The love I had for this woman is gone. I can't believe I've been so stupid holding on to her for as long as I have.
