Callie

Several Hours Later

“They want to keep me in for another day, possibly two.  Just to make sure that my stats stay stable and that I’m fine.”  I was briefing Sarah with what my doctors had told me.

“You had a damn lucky escape Callie, realistically, you were dead.  They were about to announce the time of death when you spat out water and started breathing again.”

I looked at my best friend.  I knew what she had done.  It’s time to let her know.  “I’m aware of that. I know you and Jamie were the ones saving me.”

“Wha...what?  I’ve not even told you that part yet!”  I watched Sarah’s face turn from concern to confusion.

“No need.  Amanda told me.”

“Amanda?  Not you as well…”

I frowned.  I’m not getting what Sarah is saying.  “What do you mean?”

“Jamie came round that night and said that Amanda had told him that you were in danger.”

“Yeah…”

“Are you saying you two talk to the dead?”  Sarah looked around the room as if she would see someone floating on by.

“Not essentially, but Amanda was the one that told me that I had more to live for than to crossover and be with her.”

“This is all so confusing…”

Silence filled the room for a brief second.

“Well, not really.  Amanda has made herself known to the both of us, so we know that there is life after death.”

Sarah and I looked up and seen Jamie standing in the doorway.  We hadn’t even heard him come in since we were so deep in conversation.  “Hey you…”

“Hey.  You are lucky enough that Amanda still loves you enough to ensure that you stay alive.”

“I know.”

I could feel Jamie’s grilling coming on.  “How many pills did you take?”

“Just the one, I promise.”  My eyes started to water.  Not because I was being grilled, but I have two people standing in front of me that genuinely care.  “I honestly never meant for any of this to happen.  I just needed to sleep.”

Sarah squeezed my hand.  “Couldn’t you have waited until after your bath though?”

“I guess, but I was done fighting.”  Sarah looked at me and my eyes flicked over to Jamie and back to Sarah.

“I’m going to get help; I’ve already started the ball rolling and then I have some making up to do.  To each and every one of you.”

Jamie stood behind Sarah and squeezed her shoulders as she spoke to me.  “All we want is for you to be healthy and happy Callie.”

“I know.”

“Plus, don’t be mad.  Ashley knows everything.”
