Fiona

(Flashback to more of Callie’s conversation with her)

“Cal work it out.  I don’t think you should run.”

“I have to.  I should never have let my guarded heart down.”

I looked at Callie sternly.  I did have sympathy for her but if I showed her, she would just get defensive.

“You do realise that she will turn up here and will not listen when I say that I can’t tell her where you are.  So, what do I tell her?”

“Tell her that her experiment was uncalled for and…”

“And?”

“To go and fuck herself.”

Present

“I told Callie that you wouldn’t listen, and I was right.”  I already knew this was going to play out this way when Callie was leaving.

“What did she say?

“That your experiment was uncalled for...” The last part of that message I wasn’t looking forward to delivering.

“And?”

“I hate swearing….”

“But what did she say Fiona?”

“To go and fuck yourself.”  I watched Ashley crumble and I felt bad.  But right now, my only concern was Callie.

Callie

Once I was on the road I started to think clearer and activated my call button on my steering wheel.  The voice resounded in the car, asking me for my command. “Call Sarah.”  The car then dialled her number and thankfully she picked up after a few rings.

“Well hello there, chick.  I didn’t expect to hear from you so soon.”

“Sarah…”  I spoke in a sad and deflated tone. One she has heard too many times before.

“Oh no…”

“Can I stay with you?  I am coming home.”  I was biting back my tears.

“You know you are always welcome here Callie.”

“Thanks Sarah.  I am going to crash in a hotel tonight, but I will see you tomorrow, okay?”

“Sure.  Cal…”

“Yeah?”  I knew what was coming.

“Don’t do anything stupid.”  That concerned voice boomed around the car.

“I won’t.  I just need to process and rest.”

“Well, whatever hotel you end up in, I want to know which one.  Okay?”

I knew that Sarah was being overprotective, and I know why.  “I will, I promise.  I love you Sarah.”
