Chapter 18: Team RWBY vs the Paladin

"Penny, I-I don't understand." Ruby stated.

"Most girls are born, but I was made. I'm the world's first synthetic person capable of generating an aura." Penny explained.

She then frowns and looks down, "I'm not real."

Ruby lightly smiles at her as she walks closer and takes Penny's hands in her own. "Of course, you are. You think just because you've got nuts and bolts instead squishy guts makes you any less real than me?"

"She's right you know." Damian stated.

"I don't, um...you're taking this extraordinarily well and the same goes to Damian." The android stated.

Damian shrug his shoulders as he walks closer. "Eh, we have a cyborg for a friend and practically every inch minus a small side of his face has been replaced with machinery and you are no different, just because you are artificial doesn't mean that you're just a mindless robot like the ones at the presentation."

"Damian's right, you're not like those things we saw back there." Ruby stated as she pokes Penny in the chest. "You've got a heart and a soul; I can feel it."

Penny stayed silent for a moment before she wraps her arms around the couple's heads and pulled him into a suffocating bear hug.

"Oh, you guys. You're the best friends anyone could have!" Penny exclaimed not realizing that she was literally choking the couple.

Ruby groans as she tried to get some air, "I can see why your father would want to protect such a delicate flower!"

And thankfully it was at that moment that Penny had finally let go of them. "Oh, he's very sweet. My father's the one that built me! I'm sure you would just love him!" Penny stated.

"Wow." Ruby chuckles in amusement, "He built you all by himself?"

"That's impressive." Damian proclaimed.

"Well almost, he had some help from Mr. Ironwood." Penny answered.

"The General?" Damian said confused with a raised eyebrow.

He then looked at Ruby who looked back at him just as confused as him, but her eyes then widen as realize something.

"Wait, is that why the soldiers were after you?" She asked.

"They like to protect me too!" Penny stated happily.

Ruby scoffed in amusement, "They don't think you can protect yourself?"

Penny frowns as she thinks about how overprotective everyone is to her especially the General and his soldiers. "They not sure if I'm ready yet. One day, it will be my job to save the world, but I still have a lot left to learn. That's why my father let me come to the Vytal Festival I want to see what it's like in the rest of the world and test myself in the tournament." She explained.

Saved the world? Both Damian and Ruby didn't like the sound of that it's almost like the android is getting ready for some impending doom.

"Penny what are you talking about? Save the world from what? We're in a time of peace." Ruby stated.

Penny looks at Ruby confused, "That's not what Mr. Ironwood said."

Damian narrowed his eyes at the mention of the general and was about to press more when they heard the voice of one of the soldiers.

"You have to hide!" Penny exclaimed as quickly picks them up and put them on her shoulders and then started to walk to an open crash can.

"Gah! Penny! What are you doing? You don't have to go with them I can help you!" Ruby exclaimed as Penny threw them in.
