Partners

"So, before we start and discuss the real agenda of this board meeting. I would like to introduce to you the newest Head Engineer of Saavedra Construction Group, Engineer Martina Quinn Saavedra."

I stood up and smiled, but my eyes remained on the person seating just next to my father. Everyone in the board meeting clapped their hands including him but his eyes remained elsewhere. I sat down on my chair again when I noticed that my dad gestured at me to sit down. I did so, but my attention was still on that person.

He changed. Everything about him changed. Even his features changed as well. They became more mature and manly. He seemed really different now. I don't know, but why do I feel like he's no longer the Jacob I used to know? Like he's someone I don't know. Someone I couldn't even recognize. Even though I missed him so much, he seemed like stranger now.

God knows how much I missed him. How much I longed for him. And how much I was sorry for what I did. I really did make the wrong decision and I regretted it. I am still regretting it up until now. I caused him too much pain. I was even the reason why he ended up in an accident 8 years ago. He almost died because of me! Because he was chasing me!

"Also, I would like to introduce to everyone our newly appointed Architect for our new project, Architect Jacob Ian Mariano from Mariano Construction Group."

As my father introduced him, Cob... I mean, Archt. Mariano stood up and nodded at everyone, but then his eyes stopped when they met mine.

I stiffened and immediately looked away while awkwardly clapping my hands with everyone. I sighed to calm myself down dahil halos maghumirendo na naman ang puso sa mga titig pa lang niya. He still had that kind of effect on me. Wala pa rin pinagbago, ganoon pa rin ang epekto sa akin ng mga tingin niya.

"The Board of Directors already had a brief discussion about the agenda for today prior to this meeting," pagsisimula ni Dad.

Everyone in the board meeting office remained quiet.

"It was discussed that the Residential Project our client, Mr. Diego Valgar Fuerto, assigned to us will be handled by our Head Engineer and our newly appointed Architect, Engr. Saavedra and Archt. Mariano."

My jaw dropped instantly the moment my father announced that. I saw everyone nodded their heads and clapped while smiling widely like they already have an idea about it. Tumitingin pa sa aming dalawa ni Jacob... I mean Archt. Mariano. Damn, of course naman, Tinay!

But seriously? We will be partners for this project? It's not that I don't want to pero baka hindi kami magkasundo nito dahil sa past namin. Why would Dad decide such thing?

But seriously, Tinay? Aren't you a professional? Just grow up, will you? It's just a project, a big project. I should just treat him casually, right? Pretend like nothing happened. Like nothing bad happened in the past. I can do that, right? Oh God, I hope yes.

"The Residential Project will be built in Laguna, our client's hometown. Mr. Fuerto will be the one to discuss the rest, Mr. Fuerto," Dad called a young-looking man to go in front to further explain the project.

He was tall and lean toned. His features also screamed his maturity but he's probably just around my age, or a year or two older, I guess? His eyes were gloomy, but you wouldn't notice that if you just focus on his smiling face. He's indeed good looking and I must say that he's indeed a professional because of his looks. Tindigan pa lang niya ay makikita mo na agad na sanay siya sa field ng career niya.

I snapped back to reality when someone handed me a blue folder from behind. I turned to see who the person was, but my eyes automatically widened when I saw that it was Archt. Mariano.
