Chapter 4
"Blaize what's wrong with your hand?" Felix asked wrinkling his face in the way he did when he became worried. I shrugged my shoulders still to riled up for words. His arms tenderly wrapped around my body and I clung to him like I always had. The position was familiar and so comforting his hands rubbing my back.
"Shit Blaize you had me scared half to death. You wouldn't wake up and you kept screaming and squirming." Felix's voice shook as words spilled from his mouth. I opened my mouth to speak. Once more I had nothing to say. The burning sensation returned. I grasped my hand letting out small groans. Taking my hand Felix placed it over his soft lips giving small kisses.
"Violation! Violation! Ruler number seven! Release one another this is warning one!" The speaker shouted and my hand dropped onto the bed.
"I'm gonna wait outside. I want you to get a shower and pack some clothes. I want you to stay with me tonight," Felix whispered softly.
"Felix I can't stay another night with you," I whispered right back terrified the government would become distrustful of my absence.
"I don't want to be argued with, Blaize. It's happening, now hurry up." I tried to resent his offer and before I could speak my mind he was up and gone. Felix could be a complete sweet heart, most of the time he was, but he definitely had his over-bearing moments. During these bossy moments I learned to just do and not argue.
The shower was just what I needed to wash away all the dirt and grime from the previous day. I felt refreshed and the nightmare had left my mind, for now. I threw on a pair of tight fitted skinny jeans with a hole right above my peace tattoo. A black V-neck on the top and my black leather jacket over it. I tied both of the black combat boots and gathered my things, including the letter, and headed out the door. Felix leaned against the wall while I silently admired him for the few seconds I could. His complexion was always glowing, his black hair slightly lighter than a raven and those captivating blue eyes. His hair appeared messy, but in a styled way. I admired the way his pants fitted on him and the leather jacket he wore as well.
"All ready?" He asked and I nodded following behind him down the long pathway. There was no talking, no touching except when his hand would accidentally brush against mine. I quietly made my way through Felix's house to the bathroom which, oddly enough, was the one room to not have a camera. However getting in there unnoticed was a tad bit tricky. I waited for the perfect moment when the camera had rotated completely away from the door to sneak in, Felix following behind me.
He lifted the blue mat and part of the tile floor revealing the ladder that led to our secret. My feet touched the floors and I was ready to spill all of my feelings and just talk about my occurring problems. To my dismay I found Exie and Dexter sitting on the sofa chatting away.
"Felix what are they doing here?" I asked in a hush tone.
"Exie just stopped taking her Bliss and Dexter thought we should celebrate," he filled me in. Exie and I didn't particularly like each other. We did have our differences, but it was what we had in common that really pushed our envy towards one another out. She wanted Felix to be hers just as bad.
"Hey, Blaize," she gave a polite smile that I saw right through while her arms wrapped around me. This took me by surprise and soon realized what game she was playing. "Stay away," she whispered before releasing me.
"Whatever" I replied in a snarky tone. Exie had a dazzling smile and right below her lip was a small piercing. She was a bit shorter than I, with flawless skin and black hair that fell just below her shoulder blades. Despite her stunning image, beneath was a manipulative sarcastic girl and I refused to get sucked into her pathetic childish games.
Dexter smiled at me and his strong arms held me close to his chest. He was the oldest of us all him being nineteen, Exie and Felix eighteen, then me seventeen nearly eighteen. Dexter had a handsome face with brown eyes and a perfect jawline. His chest and shoulders were very broad and muscular as well has his stomach. His hair was a blonde similar to mine with his natural color peeking out at the roots which he gelled upward.
Dexter had been the first to not take Bliss. He had avoided from the start, along with Felix who he easily convinced. I was on it for about a week before Felix persuaded me to stop. Lastly, Exie her reasons were unknown. I let go of Dexter and slightly looked him over. It had been months since I'd seen him. Dexter had feelings for me he always had. He'd been chasing me since day one, though he knew about Felix and me.
My thoughts were interrupted with playful giggling. I glanced over to Felix and Exie exchanging some flirtatious words and gestures. She gave me a fierce glare but I turned away. I wouldn't play her games.
"So who wants to party?" Dexter asked breaking out two cases of alcohol, one in each hand.
"How did you even get that? It's against the rules" Exie asked exasperated. We all were stunned at the presence of it. No one had seen alcohol in years let alone been in drinking perimeters of it.
"First rule of rebelling honey, screw what the government says and do what you want. We don't belong to them we are on our way to being free individuals," Dexter replied boldly.
"Well can we be individuals after my tattoo? I don't want you to mess it up," Exie asked holding the gun up.
Exie sat in a chair as Dexter worked on the tattoo on her neck. Felix tried to comfort Exie as she let out small whimpers through the process. It was only her second tattoo bigger than the first but smaller than all of ours. The thing took about twenty minutes and we all admired Dexter's work when he finished. It was simple yet elegant in just plain black ink.
"The tattoo suits you well," Felix complimented her as Dexter bandaged it up so it wouldn't ruin.
"Now can we drink?" Dexter pleaded. Soon we were all gathered around the sofa. Both Dexter and Felix were going over important things with Exie now that she was a Grunger. My mind began to wonder as I sipped on my drink while thoughts from this morning flooded me. Sadness washed over my face as I replayed the moment over and over again.
"Hey what's wrong?" Dexter ask giving me a playful push in hopes my facial expression would change.
"My mother, she uh, she turned thirty-nine today," I replied. Both Felix and Exie stopped the conversation to turn their focus on me.
"Oh my, Blaize. I'm so sorry," Exie said as she moved closer to us.
