Chapter 22

"They're taking him to room D202, that's not far," Felix set the clip board down then lead the way out of the caged room. We were no longer safe as we wondered down the halls. Each turn put us in more danger than the last.

"Look! There he is," Felix could hardly contain his excitement as we filed behind the corner silently observing.

Dexter was positioned on the floor in front of an off white door with a small window attached at the top. The worker talked with a guard before opening the door allowing them to enter. The guard stood tall with a solid black uniform that separated him from the workers, and an intimidating gun in his right hand only moving a muscle when he was approached.

"N-No! Please don't!" Dexter attempted to scream. Two workers supported him, one on each side forcing him to walk. Dexter suddenly jammed his fist into the worker on his left. It was clear he had used all his energy for a single punch. The guard that had been so silent jabbed his gun into Dexter's stomach and that's all it took before he fell down in agony. They then proceeded to drag him into the room.

"No Dexter," I accidentally whimpered out. The guard and the worker with the broken nose turned their attention towards us. Felix swiftly threw his hand over my mouth holding me tightly against his body in the darkness. I matched my breaths to his as the stomping became closer and closer. As they neared us our breathes came to a halt.

"I swear I heard a sound," The guard spoke, skeptically looking around.

"Get back to your position and stop wasting my damn time," This voice was a lot heavier and deeper as well. After several minutes of looking around the guard listened to the worker and returned to his position.

"So what's the plan?" I asked.

"I...well..I have no idea." He answered truthfully.

"Well we need a plan. We can't just go in their and save the day. They'll kill us."

"We have to wait for the guard to leave anyway. Just give me a minute I'm working on it," Felix scrunched his face trying to cook something up. I left Felix alone and turned my attention back to the guard. It was a good five minutes of nothingness before he even budged. He spoke into his shoulder and then left, just like that.

"Felix," I nudged him pointing to the guard.

"Shift change?" Felix asked shrugging his shoulders. Regardless we had a limited amount of time before him or a new guard arrived. It was our chance.

Hesitantly, we began to approach the door. The window stood high, forcing me to stand on my tip toes to glance inside.

"Do you see the walls? They're sound proof. I think all the rooms are like that," Felix pointed out. "Look there's Dexter! In the corner."

My eyes were locked on the vile scene that took place in front of me. It was horrible, loathsome, sicking. My stomach felt weak at the sight of what was happening to Dexter. Torture device after torture device showing him absolutely no mercy. The worst part was the amount of pleasure they gained from it.

"We need to do something!" I whispered

"I know, I know. Just let me think," Felix stepped away from the door pacing back and forth.

As much as I wanted I couldn't close my eyes, turn my head, just stop watching. In a single moment, what was Dexter's last breath, the worker took his neck in his hands and snapped it.

"Dexter no!" I shrieked at his lifeless body. I fell to my knees at the sight of our beloved best friends death. Cries escaped my throat as Felix tried to quiet me down.

"Shh Blaize please. This isn't the time. I'm mortified and hurt too, but you need to calm down."

"Felix we could've saved him! We could've saved Exie too. I don't think I can do this!" At this point I was hysterical.

"Listen to me," Felix spoke in an austere voice. "We are here for a reason, you knew this was a possibility, I knew it, Exie knew it, and Dexter knew it. Every single Grunger knows they could face death at any given moment. We are here for a reason, we are going to fight back. Don't you dare give up on me now." I let Felix's words soothe me and got back onto my feet. It was to late my scream had already grabbed the attention of the workers. I stood up slowly as three of them began closing in on us. I took a step closer to Felix grabbing a hold of his hand.
