Chapter 28

My heart was knocking against my chest and as every second flew by I grew more anxious. Usually warm showers helped me get my thoughts in order and soothed me. Not this time. The water rolled down my body and I stood there, listening to the continuous patter of the dripping. My head leaned against the tiled wall slowly inhaling and exhaling hoping it would calm the beat of my heart.

Finally I decided it was time for me to stop hiding and get the answers I not only deserved, but desperately desired. I threw the clothes on (which weren't anything special. Tight fitted jeans and a plain white v-neck.), and sat on the edge of my bed. I began lacing my boots up when I noticed a familiar piece of clothing hanging on the chair with a note.

I thought you'd want this back :)

-Malakai

I held up my freshly washed leather jacket examining it. Dirt no longer loitered on the jacket and I noticed some small stitches where it had originally been torn. Impressed, I threw it on feeling the snug, warm fabric around my skin.

"All ready?" I jumped at his sudden presence and he let out a small chuckle.

"Uh, yeah." I smiled closing the door behind me.

"I see you got my note."

"Yeah," I grinned. "Thank you. It means a lot Malakai." I tagged behind him my feet not wanting to carrying me much further due to exhaustion. Along the way we passed multiple people which had been a relief since I hadn't seen a single soul since I'd arrived. They all wore the same attire, different from me though. The guys had matching haircuts as did the girls.

"Was this Atrix's idea? Making us look like clones." There was a harshness to my tone.

"Yeah it was his idea. Anything he does is for our safety. He lets you guys be individuals. I mean dress code may be a little strict but you guys aren't our prisoners. Individuality is something rebellions believe in strongly, and if you think this is harsh wait until you see the apparel for battle and training," he responded. I rolled my eyes he must have been delusional as well. The thought that Atrix had our best interest at heart humored me.

Ever since I met the guy I had an off feeling about him and it was no wonder we didn't get along. All I wanted were some straight forward answers and he couldn't even deliver that. It wasn't just the constant ignoring that set me off, it was the way he treated me the second we met, like he was always playing games. Though I did respect him for some things, there was an uneasy feeling that we'd be butting heads quite often.

The elevator doors opened and we stepped in. We were going to the third floor where I assumed Atrix had his office. I watched he numbers of the floor light up as we passed each level. My hand was starting to shake even more.

"Look," Malakai's voice changed. "When you get to his office you can't give him that little attitude I adore. I understand you aren't in any position to trust us, but we did save you, and we have been your allies for some time now. Give him the respect you'd give Felix.

Atrix is much more powerful than you would ever expect and has connections like you wouldn't believe. Get in, get answers, and get out without pissing him off. That's free advice." He smirked as the door slid open. "Take a right and then a left, his door is at the end of the hall."

"Wait! You aren't coming?" Malakai pushed me out.

"Nope." He gave a mischievous smile before taking off, abandoning me in an isolated part of the building. The steps echoed and the fluttering of my pulse could be heard from miles away.

I found myself standing in front of his door knocking against the hard glass. Atrix opened the door and stood tall looking me over. Then he finally spoke, "When we're done here you'll need to go to maintenance." He stepped aside allowing me into his office.
