Six's P.O.V:
I shriek Four's name at the top of my lungs, sweat beading on my forehead and adrenaline pulsing through my veins. He's leaned back against a tree with half-lidded eyes- Well, he was, but having someone dash towards you while screaming your name isn't exactly the most pleasant thing to doze off to. Four's eyes are now snapped wide open and attentive as he presses up against the tree in alarm, emitting a startled yelp.
I skid to a halt in front of the surprised numeral and wipe the searing sweat from my eyes, gasping for air. "Four... F-Four, you... Did..." I choke out the words, fumbling to find the right ones as he gazes in shock. Funny, and I thought I was supposed to be the writer here. Four's shoulders begin to loosen as he clutches his chest, just barely recovering from the start. Eventually, he pipes up with a raised voice; "Six, you moron! You just-!" He breathes out frustratedly, rubbing his temples. Seems I must've frightened him pretty badly...
"S-Sorry Four, I..." I pause to search for a reasoning. Alas, we're both at a loss for words as we attempt to guide our minds back to rationality.
But then, without a warning, tears begin to stream down my face like a running river. They block out any coherent thoughts I might've been able to produce. Four watches as I choke out pitiful sobs and bawls, a touch of pity crossing his eyes.
He then does something I'd never expect.
Four recoils, his face softening, and lightly pats down on the grass beside him.
Is he... Beckoning me over?
I wipe a few stinging tears from my eyes and take a shaky seat beside him, following suit to lean against the great oak tree. It's only then I notice X tucked in Four's arms, swaddled in what seems to be a thin layer of moss. How had I not seen him earlier? I sigh heftily, occasionally hiccuping as my tears begin to subside. Four seizes the moment to finally speak.
"What happened?"
The simple question alone only causes another tear to fall onto my knees, which I'd tucked to my chest a few moments before. "I... It's nothing, really. N-Nothing important, you know?" I reply with a faint laugh, looking away and allowing my smile to falter. Four refuses to buy this, further questioning me. "If it really was nothing, you must be quite the crybaby."
I inhale sharply, turning back to stare at him with disbelieving furrowed brows. "A-Am not!" I stutter mid-sentence, attempting to recollect myself. Nice going, Six. Reeeaaaal smooth.
He merely chuckles, shaking his head in disbelief. "You're a really bad liar." Four snickers and squeezes X in his arms slightly. I'm unsure why he makes this gesture, but I attempt to ignore his possessiveness and instead focus on the blatant insult he had just shot at me. Without a single witty thing to say, I foolishly comply to his demands.
"...Fine. I'll tell you the truth." I mutter under my breath and cross my legs, clasping my hands firmly in my lap.
Four gazes intently at me, only further prodding for an answer. I gulp and open my mouth to continue, my throat running dry. "I... I saw..."
All of a sudden, a loud voice booms over mine before I could finish the sentence.
Standing before us, fists clenched and breathing ragged, is the one red number everyone can't help but be intimidated by.
Of course, it's the one, the only...
"She saw me."
...Three.
And that's when I knew the jagged oak tree felt a lot more comfortable than the coming tension ever will.
